Interesting question......It has been brought up on another site by a PT fan.

Which is the worse loss.....

Marshall's beatdown received from Longview 53-0

OR

Pine Tree's loss to Pittsburgh 42-30?

Obviously one was a close game.... and one was a skull dragging.

PT's loss is to a current 4A-D2 team that is (3-4).

Marshall's loss was to the defending state champs who haven't lost since the pleistocene era

No such thing as a "good loss" IMHO.

But it's an interesting thought.  FWIW.... PT lost to Pirr the same night Marshall lost to Longview.  Obviously we've both improved since week 2.  Taking that into account.

Thoughts?

PT losing to Pitt.

Pine Tree had 3 TO's against Pittsburg in which the "Camp County" Pirates turned into scores.

That total accounts for all but two others that Pine Tree has had the whole entire season which is 5 team turnovers.

Meanwhile, once Longview got going in that matchup with Marshall it "snowballed" into the route it became !

It's obvious that PT's loss was worse.

FWIW...PT has turned what was once a negative turnover ratio number ( -2 ) into what has become a positive (+7) since that defeat.

While the offense has been the team strength the often maligned Pirate defense has slowly began to create more opportunities during District play !

Now comes "crunch time" for  Pine Tree to see if they can begin to prove they belong.

We stopped them 2 possessions in 1st qtr. Defense did their job for as long as they could. Was only 17-0 at halftime.

Incorrect.

Marshall had two possessions in the first, then Meredith scored on Longview’s second possession that came early in the second quarter. Longview’s third possession of the game didn’t come until there was less than 6 minutes left in the first half. Lobos scores on three of their four drives in that first half.

10-5A looks like a beast....and that's who we will be facing in the first round.

THREE teams are 5-0, and Huntsville may be the best 3-2 team in the state.

Here is how I'm PREDICTING that district will finish:
1.  AMC
2.  Huntsville
3.  Lamar Cosol
4.  Katy Pat/Bryan Rudder

And 9-5A
1.  Marshall
2.  Pine Tree
3.  Lindale
4.  Whitehouse

Which would make for a first round like this.....

Katy Pat/Bryan Rudder @ Marshall
Lamar Consolidated @ Pine Tree
Whitehouse @ A&M Consolidated
Lindale @ Huntsville

PT/Marshall could flip positions.  Lindale could squeeze in there too.  But it gives an idea.

Mavchamp...

It's been over two weeks since you "explored" the playoff possibilities between 9-5A D-II & 10-5A D-II.

Can you fill us in on where things stand now ?

Thank you in advance !

I'll do a little more detailed analysis (and the rest of East Texas 5A) tomorrow.

"Predicted Finish" for 9-5A
1.  Marshall/PT
2.  Marshall/PT
3.  Whitehouse
4.  Lindale

"Predicted Finish" for 19-5A
1.  A&M Consolidated
2.  Huntsville
3.  Katy Pat/Lamar Consolidated
4.  Katy Pay/Lamar Consolidated

Katy Pat/Lamar Consol Vs. Marshall
Katy Pat/Lamar Consol Vs. Pine Tree
Whitehouse Vs. Huntsville
Lindale Vs. AMC

There are SOOOO many variables that could make all this wrong....lol.  WH could beat PT..... and/or Marshall.  PT could split with WH/Marshall in any combination.  Marshall could sweep, split, or lose to to PT/WH.

Katy Pat/Lamar seems to be the wildcard in 10-5A.  They won't play until the final week.  But either way... they will both be headed to East Texas to face any combination of Marshall/PT/WH

My personal prediction:

Lamar Consolidated at Marshall (rematch of last season)
Katy Pat at Pine Tree
Whitehouse at Huntsville
Lindale at A&M Consolidated

East Texas 5A Week 9 Update.  RED INDICATES TEAM HAS CLINCHED A PLAYOFF SPOT

8-5A Div II Scores
Greenville beat Sulphur Springs 25-13
Corsicana beat Forney 7-0
Royse City beat Kaufman 47-7
North Forney beat Terrell 50-28
Ennis- OFF

Standings
Ennis (6-0) (7-1)
Corsicana (6-1) (7-2)
Royse City (5-1) (7-1)

Greenville (4-2) (5-3)
North Forney (3-3)(5-3)
Sulphur Springs (1-5) (1-7)
Forney (1-5) (2-6)
Terrell (1-5) (1-7)
Kaufman (1-6) (1-8)

Ennis remains in first place, but Corsicana is waiting to pounce in their upcoming rumble.  Royse City is in good position for a playoff berth, while Greenville is on the verge of breaking a near 20 year playoff drought.

Ennis and Corsicana will tangle for the district championship this coming Friday.  The Lions have looked solid of late, while Corsicana surprisingly struggled with Forney this week.

Royse City is lurking.... waiting for one of the top two to slip up so they can steal away a homefield advantage for the playoffs. And Greenville needs just one more win to end their suffering.  It could comet this week as they face a (2-6) Forney team.

----------

9-5A Div II Scores
Whitehouse beat Pine Tree 50-36
Marshall beat Nacogdoches 44-20
Lindale beat Mount Pleasant 41-28
Jacksonville beat Hallsville 29-15

Standings
Whitehouse (5-0) (6-2)
Marshall (5-0) (5-3)
Pine Tree (4-1) (5-3)

Lindale (3-2) (5-3)
Mount Pleasant (1-4) (3-5)
Nacogdoches (1-4) (1-7)
Jacksonville (1-4) (2.6)
Hallsville (0-4) (2-5)

The four playoff teams have been determined.  That's about all we know.

Whitehouse got a HUGE road win at Pine Tree to knock the Pirates out of the three-way tie for first place in the district.  PT drops to third place, which currently means they will be on the road for the first round of the playoffs.  Marshall had to fight off a pesky Nac team to remain tied for first place with the Wildcats.  Nacogdoches saw their playoff hopes end.  Lindale got a big win to stay in the race, while Jacksonville beat Hallsville to stay out of the district cellar.

Two critical games this coming week.  Marshall will be on the road at Whitehouse; the winner will claim no less than a tie for the district championship.  Meanwhile... Pine Tree and Lindale will be battling out a crucial game for playoff seeding.  If Lindale were to beat PT.... the winner of the WH/Marshall game would clinch the district championship.

----------

7-5A Div I Scores
Mckinney North beat John Tyler 36-28
West Mesquite beat Mesquite Poteet 31-17
Sherman beat Wylie East 42-14
Texas High- OFF

Standings
McKinney North (5-0) (8-1)
John Tyler (3-1) (3-5)
Mesquite Poteet (3-1) (4-4)
West Mesquite (2-2) (2-6)
Texas High (1-3) (4-4)
Sherman (1-3) (4-4)
Wylie East (0-5) (2-7)

Week 9 produced some unexpected results by some prognosticator's standards.  McKinney North took sole possession of first place in the district with their win over John Tyler Thursday night.  But the biggest upset was West Mesquite's win over Poteet.  The victory catapulted the Wranglers into the 4th place slot and moved Idle Texas High into fifth place.  Sherman beat WE to keep their SLIM playoff hopes alive.

John Tyler will host Poteet in a HUGE game this week.  The winner will set themselves up to host a first round playoff game, while the loser could potentially have to travel for their playoff game.  Texas High will need a win over Sherman to keep pace with West Mesquite, who will be hosting Sherman.

Going to be a great race to the finish

----------

8-5A Div I Scores
Lufkin beat Magnolia West 52-7
College Station beat WIllis 55-28
Magnolia beat Tomball 55-28
Caney Creek beat Waller 41-40

Standings
Lufkin (5-0) (7-1)
Magnolia West (4-1) (5-3)
College Station (4-1) (6-2)
Magnolia (3-2) (5-3)
Tomball (2-3) (3-5)
WIllis (1-4) (2-6)
Caney Creek (1-4) (2-6)
Waller (0-5) (0-7)

Lufkin now has sole possession of first place with their dominating win over Magnolia West.  The Panthers are now in position to claim yet another district championship, but also host a home playoff game.  Mag West and College Station are on a collision course for a HUGE week 11 game that will likely determine who will host a first round game, and who will have to hit the road for a playoff game.  Magnolia beat Tomball to take sole possession of the fourth and final playoff slot with just two games to go.

---------------------------------------------
PLAYOFF WATCH

West Mesquite/Texas High Vs. Lufkin
Magnolia Vs. McKinney North
John Tyler/Mesquite Poteet Vs. College Station/Magnolia West
College Station/Magnolia West Vs. John Tyler/Mesquite Poteet

Obviously there are still some variables involved in the next two weeks that could completely change ALL this.

How West Mesquite and Texas High finish in the final two weeks will determine who Lufkin will host.  Magnolia and McKinney North seem to be a lock unless MN slips in the final two weeks.

-------

Whitehouse/Marshall Vs. Lamar Consolidated/Katy Pat (Longshot Bryan Rudder)
Lamar Consolidated/Katy Pat/Bryan Rudder Vs. Marshall/Whitehouse
Pine Tree Vs. Huntsville
Lindale Vs. A&M Consolidated

This playoff scenario is still VERY cloudy.  The winner of the WH/Marshall game will likely host Lamar Consolidated, while the loser would host Katy Pat..... BUT.... Marshall still has PT in week 11... so the Pirates cannot be ruled out to take that home playoff game UNLESS Lindale beats them this coming week.  If the Eagles beat PT..... Marshall and WH will definately be hosting playoff games.  Just a matter of who will be #1 and who will be #2.  But if PT beats Lindale.... then the Pirates still have a chance of hosting a playoff game with a win over Marshall in week 11.  Lamar Consolidated and Bryan Rudder are currently tied for fourth place... and unless Katy Pat upsets Huntsville tonight... then there will be a three way tie for the fourth place slot headed into week 10.  Rudder unfortunately has AMC and Huntsville left on their schedule.  That will Likely send the Rangers into basketball season.  Seeding between Lamar Consolidated and Katy Pat will likely be determined in week 11 when they face off for a 3rd/4th place battle.

Unless PT can beat Lindale... they are staring down the barrel of heading to either Huntsville or AMC for a first round game.  Ouch.

Lindale will likely be headed to either AMC or Huntsville....but a win over PT will improve their standings.

-------------

Ennis/Corsicana
Royse City
Greenville

I'll be honest with you.... determining these playoff matchups is a headache because District 7-5A currently has a FOUR way tie for first place between Denison, Frisco, Braswell, and Lovejoy.... all of whom are (5-1) in district play.  Frisco Reedy is lurking just one game behind.

SO... tbh...who knows.  It's been too long since I took calculus to figure this out.  There are still too many possibilities to even attempt to list here.

If I had to guess..... the first round is going to look something like this:

Braswell/Lovejoy Vs. Ennis
Braswell/Lovejoy Vs. Corsicana
Royse City Vs. Frisco
Greenville Vs. Denison

-----------------

Let me know if you see any mistakes.... but I THINK I've covered all the bases.  Maybe.  Probably not.

Texas High plays Wylie East and West Mesquite and Sherman are in the other matchup. Texas High needs to beat Wylie East to keep playoff hopes alive.

It’s crazy...we may not find out again (similar to last year) until the final week who we are playing. It could be Thigh, WM, Poteet...heck Sherman and maybe even JT. Five freakin teams! Lol. And we’re in week 9. Get it together 7-5A!! Lol

LMAO...right?

Have you seen the standings of the 5A Frisco district?

It's a total MESS.  FOUR teams tied for first place.  And you can't ignore Reedy who is only 1 game out.

Most schools wouldn't even have enough scouts to cover that many teams.

Katy Pat upsets Huntsville tonight...

Katy Pat beat Huntsville 25-14 which leaves Pat with just 1 district loss (their only total loss) so far which was to A&M Cons. They have still yet to face Lamar Consolidated which will be their last game.

At this point, Huntsville could very easily stay at 3rd. Haven't done the scenarios to see if 4th is a possibility as Rudder would have to pull of an upset over A&M this week and also beat Huntsville in the last week.

Whoa.... did NOT expect Huntsville to lose to Katy.  That's pretty big.
