What a silly reason to get upset about. You can tell he doesn’t have a great relationship with a Gundy. Say it man to man rather than crying about it on social media. Gives the school a bad look.

Gives the man who gave one of the most epic soundbites ever defending a BLACK KID.  HE'S A MAN!  PROBABLY 50 NOW!  ATTACK GUNDY, NOT THE KID!  I AM A MAN!

People want diversity as long as you agree with them.

From what I can see, a lot of UT issues are coming out of the Office of Diversity. I thought the purpose was to celebrate differences and not to create division. But I am an “OK Boomer“ that was taught the United States was a melting pot of cultures. Unfortunately we have put society in a centrifuge and banded out our differences.

A&M didn't allow black students until 1963, 7 years after the RACIST University of Texas, and University of North Texas.

Other Racist Universities:

Houston: 1960s (guessing '63 also)
Texas Tech: 1961
A&M Commerce 1963 (guessing it was the entire A&M System)

So the first school(s) in Texas to allow black students was the Super Racist school known as The University of Texas... because of a song?  I guess every city in the state is racist too because almost every district has a Robert E Lee school etc for honoring the historical leaders who helped establish this wonderful state.

a&m-Commerce wasn't part of the a&m system until around '94-95. That's when the name changed from East Texas State University to what it is now.

No clue on first black students at ETSU. That '63 date could be correct...maybe not.

When I left my small East Texas town and headed to Austin for college I was in for a huge surprise. I graduated from high school (1984) with a class of about 140 people. I thought that everyone was "like" me.  That is, until I got to UT.  What I thought was a normal person was thrown out of the window.  For everyone "like" me there were 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 plus that were NOT like me.  I will say that some of my viewpoints changed as well as my tolerance level of others grew likewise.  But what did not change is my opinion of stupid people and agitators.

One thing about being on a major college campus there is always something going on.  A group is always protesting something.  A bulk of my classes were near the West Mall which was a Free Speech area during noon M-F (It may still be but I do not know for sure) so I witnessed a lot of protesting.  It did not matter what the cause was but there was always the same core group protesting something.  Of course the protesting group size would change depending on how many other people felt the need to protest but that same core group remained the same.  They were always upset about something.  Some were not even students.

I am all in for changing things for the better but I do not like stupid people that act out of emotion instead of logic and I do not like agitators that keep having to stir the pot for their own personal agendas and/or take things out of context.  Plus I do not like others telling someone how they should feel about something.

While my daughter was a student at UT (2010-2014) she had to take some Diversity Classes.  She had a roommate that had a "COEXISTS" sticker on her car that had all of the different religious symbols spelling the word coexists.  While I agree that we need to coexists that does not mean we have to agree. It is of my opinion that the ability to disagree quickly escalates to the other person being wrong and there is no middle ground thus "diversity" is no longer present.

That's the thing... my tolerance levels grew.  My understanding grew.  My ideals never changed.  I have gay friends.  I have gay family.  I have Clinton diehards (God Bless Arkansians) in my family.

I can listen to them.  I don't fight them.  There is no reason to.  I make them explain their reasoning on why something is right or wrong...  I keep asking them to elaborate until they hit a dead end.  I never force my views on them.  Sometimes they ask.  They usually hate the answer.  Most of my homosexual friends grew up in church etc and are now Godless people.  So they don't understand.  My liberal family thinks the Democratic party has no flaws until they are asked to put it up against their religious beliefs and our Constitutional freedoms.

The truth is, being a God fearing person and a 100% Democrat is Godless.  The work of Satan.  If you are a mildly conservative Democrat then you may have some room to wiggle...  But if you are going to stand with Nancy and Joe and how they have treated your freedoms in the past, you may as well be an Athiest Canadian.

My Grandpa was Great Depression born, a 8th grade dropout due to having help his father haul pulpwood to feed their family of 10. He raised 2 sons while being a ranch hand, a truck driver and eventually running his own dirt work business. He was a Democrat. Lifelong. “Stoney, remember this. A Republican is for the rich man. A Democrat is for the working man.” My Grandpa’s Democrat is long gone. They shifted to Republican when the rest of that party shifted socialist.

Our parents when they started this everybody is equal, everybody is special, participation trophy bull, they ramped up the road to hell that we are on. You used to be able to have civil disagreements with somebody with a differing opinion. You can’t do that today. Anybody with a different opinion has to be canceled. You take their voice away. You take their career away. You make their lives hell. Because these kids have been raised that their opinion is the only valid one to have. They are so socially crippled that the only way they know to get their point across is to throw a temper tantrum. You can’t have a conversation with someone who reacts off emotion and not reason.

I know its high school but Hallsville fight song is dixie..and I know the black community in Hallsville has been trying to get that changed for some years.

I understand that it will be changed. For the longest I never paid attention to the tune. It was Dixie that was played at a very fast pace. For you old timers out there it was like playing a 33 LP on the 78 setting on the record player.

Heck naw!!! Why would they do that? If so, what's next? The Libtards & PETA gonna come after schools with animals (eagles, tigers, bulldogs, widcats) as mascots? 🙄😁

Show me an Eagle, Tiger, Bulldog, or Wildcat that enslaved a group of people against their will.

Texas boards are saying Anthony Cook is no longer with the program, but I don't see him in the transfer portal (yet) so maybe he's done with football??  I know the talk was he was going to be in a battle with Adimora for the NB spot and that the staff may have liked Adimora a little more so who knows if that has anything to do with it.

NM on the portal stuff, talk now is could be headed to Mississippi State where the former DB coach is.

LOL...maybe not enslaved people....but attack and kill people, yea. 🤔😁

So you agree with Ore City potentially changing the mascot away from Rebels?

I don’t care if Ore City changes their mascot as long it is African Americans who are actually from Ore City who are the people who want it changed.

I could care less about what people from the cities have to say about what schools do that are hundreds of miles away from them.

The Confederate symbols I do not agree with. However, I also do not live in Ore City. I am not sure what people think about it. I know locally in DFW, Richland High School is changing their mascot name. If it offends the kids that go to Ore City, then yes it should be changed.

I’m pretty sure Ore City distanced themselves from the confederate type logo over a decade ago.

Honestly  Raiders is the most likely alternative. Technically politically correct but still have some of the past. Rebel Flag is really not a good idea to associate your school with.

I'd just like it to stay Rebels. Tradition. The Rebel (Confederate flag) hasn't been used in quite a while...but it was back in my day in the 80s.
