Is Rockdale closed? If so, probably won't hear anything for awhile

Hasn’t stopped others this week for naming new guys. Caught me by surprise with a good bit being named.

Rockdale ISD has a new Head Football Coach and Athletic Director.  Defensive Coordinator Jacob Campsey is promoted to the top role.

Not a surprising pick.  Seems to be well-liked in the community.  We'll see how he does in his first-ever role as AD/HFC.

No not Jack.  The board had their opportunity to make a big splash.

Let's say school boards make decisions with their hearts.  I wish the young man the best.  He's inheriting a very talented team for his first HC/AD job.

Correct.  He will need to make a strong first impression.  Region III could be open and I could easily see Rockdale winning the district this year.

Cameron has the better talent in the 10th, 9th and 7th grades.  Teams in 8th grade split the last two years in competitive games.  Both 8th grade classes are very strong.

An another school board gets it wrong once again. These small town boards are ridiculous

They don't always choose who's best. Hell some are "hired" before the committee is even formed. its all just a show. They think they chose who they want when in fact its what at least 4 on the board want. They need to only be able to approve the superintendents/ Committees choice and have no say over who gets the job. But never the less this doesn't happen often at small schools. Heck it happens in big areas too. But i'm trying to figure out who the big splash is.

Or they picked the guy the kids already know and won’t have to learn a new system and terminology since if they hired an outsider he probably won’t get to meet the kids until June.

I always thought schools should handle the hiring of an AD/HC like they do the hiring of an superintendent.  Bring an outside committee into doing the vetting of the applicants.  There are too many emotions that can sway a board member especially if there has been an assistant coach who has been around the program awhile.  If that assistant is capable then his resume will speak for itself.   There isn't an assistant around who doesn't want the HC job but that doesn't mean they are HC material.

You make a good point.  There are some assistants out there that are going to pan out great and others that simply aren't.  Cameron's top two coaches of all-time kind of fell into two different categories when they were hired.

When Rhoades was hired in 2009, it looked like a home run hire and it ended up being one. He had taken a 5A team to a state championship and served as a coordinator at some larger, well-recognized programs.  Rhoades went 82-17 with 3 state championships and 5 appearances in 7 years.

When York was hired in 1981, he had not been a head coach.  But, he had been under Bob McQueen at Temple when they were really rolling in the late 70s.  Temple was 50-0 in the regular season at 60-4-1 overall while he was there.  Still, was unproven at this time, but ended up going 76-11-2 in Cameron with the state championship in 81.

And then there was Todd Dodge.  That didn't pan out initially, but that has kind of come full circle in regards to our offensive scheme.

Dodge may be the “only” coach who never won at Yoe.

Agree...i appreciate loyalty but not at the expense of potentially sinking a good program. Pick candidate by performance not personal feelings.

Yoe fans be happy, the Tigers took the Yoe way out.  Hope the Tigers  can get that State title, but their chances just diminished greatly.   Now Cameron and Rockdale can be buddies, they can hate on Troy and Lorena.   Let's just hope they get to play.

Sometimes it's not even people on the board. It's members of the booster club.

Definitely on that table.  Best team out of this district could very well win the region, and it could be that way in 2021 as well.  No clear favorites like Grandview was last season.

Lorena will probably only be in 3A for two years, but they certainly have a chance to make an impact.  They will need to improve from last year's group to make this happen.

They started out hot then injuries started to pile up... After they beat lampasses it went down hill from there

Serious question.... Has Lorena made any real noise since the Crawford era?

They went to the 3rd round in 2018 but lost to pittsburg and imo had the game not stopped for 3 or 4 hours because of a bad storm lorena wins that game
