Lady Lobos tied at 0-0 with Joshua at halftime.

Pretty even first half. Lady Lobos had two fantastic chances cleared off the line, but besides that.

Headed to overtime tied 0-0.

Lufkin boys soccer defeats Corsicana 4-2 and will play Nacogdoches in the 3rd round. The two have already played twice in district, should be a great matchup.

Lufkin baseball no hit Jacksonville 9-0, while WH pulled out a 2-1 win over Nacogdoches in Nac. This 16-5A has three really good baseball teams.

Lufkin Girls softball won 16-1 in 3 innings over Tyler High.

Still a little shocked to see the Ladies get swept in soccer.

Particularly Jacksonville and Longview.  The metro areas are still ahead of us when it comes to development.

Goes back to the same thing with basketball..... we are lagging behind in East Texas when it comes to elite leagues.

And we don't see the soccer specialists athletes like they do in the suburbs.  Those kids play soccer YEAR ROUND.  Just not there yet here.

Honestly, I think you can look at the boys side to further prove your point.  In soccer, the superior athleticism they may have had with the boys soccer team in Kilgore (they were ranked #1 or 2) in their loss shows that a skilled team can beat superior athletes in skilled sports like soccer.

The Longview loss was purely down to Joshua’s keeper in regulation. Penalty kicks are just a luck of the draw really, and yes Longview had four chances to end it,  but PKs are PKs. Longview played well throughout the night. Easily could’ve had two or three goals on a different night.

No doubt the game was winnable for Longview.  The regulation score clearly shows that.  I watched the PKs.  It could have gone the other way for sure

But I think it still shows a gap in talent when a district runner up team gave a dominating district champion such a close game.  Same with Jacksonville (who did struggle some in their district).

The gap is narrower than it was 5-10 years ago.  Most of those DFW/ETX games were blowouts it seemed.  Now East Texas is hanging tough.  But still seems to be a bit behind. (0-4) is a tough pill to swallow.

Good to see the Boys flexing a bit. And knowing ETX will have 2 teams in the region quarters is a good thing going forward.

Eh, I don't think the soccer disparity between the non-burbs and burbs are as wide like basketball is...on the boys side anyway.

Very disappointed Jacksonville girls lost. They had a great season though... only 3 seniors.

No doubt, on the whole I completely agree that East Texas soccer on the girls level is a bit behind.

I think the boys are closing the gap, but as you said earlier, our players are never going to the opportunities that those in the Metroplex or any other large Metro areas are having every single day of the year.

It's frustrating from a Lady Lobo stand point, because the way they lost on Tuesday is how every season has gone for the most part recently.

2014 - Allen, Tied 0-0...Lost 3-1 on PKs.
2015 - Mansfield Legacy, Tied 1-1...Lost 4-2 on PKs.
2016 - Mansfield Lake Ridge, Tied 1-1...Lost 3-2 on PKs.
2017 - The Woodlands College Park, Tied 1-1...Lost 3-0 on PKs.
2019 - The outlier, lost to Allen 5-0.
2021 - Joshua, Tied 0-0...Lost 8-7 on PKs.

I think, Longview at least, is on the right path. I really did think this season they had a chance to make the State Tournament. But finishing will kill you. There was one save that I keep remembering in the first half that I have no idea how that Joshua keeper made, that would've been the difference in the end. Ah well.

Looking forward to tonight. Hoping we can have an all East Texas Region Final.

The biggest gap between the metros and the outliers will show in 5A soccer.  6A is almost exclusively metros and 4A is almost exclusively outside of metros.  5A has such a big mix of schools and at some point someone is going to run into one of the schools where their entire soccer team plays on a nationally ranked club team in DFW... there is just more of an opportunity to really build those soccer skills that any great football or basketball player can’t step off the court/out of pads and do.

There is a fix, but it would take a huge investment from the REGION to fix it.  Between the 4A and 5A towns they all need club teams and need a sponsored league.  Where they can play regional and the top teams travel and play in dfw tournaments
