In the final count, Hillary Clinton’slead in the popular vote of the 2016 presidential election was nearly three million votes.

According to the independent, non-partisan Cook Political Report, Clinton’s final tally came in at 65,844,610, compared to Donald Trump’s 62,979,636, with a difference of 2,864,974. The total number of votes for other candidates was 7,804,213.

That translates to about 46% of the vote. That would be a minority.

😂...in this scenario, Killary's total is only 48% of the vote. That's a minority too then. 😂

@TTman7 , Democrats are talking about the popular vote nationwide, just the grand total and do not want to look at the Electoral College. They want it abolished and they want to let in as many illegal aliens as possible and get them approved to vote thinking they’ll all vote Dem.

It’s only about obtaining and retaining power forever for the Democrats. They do not care what laws they have to break or change or who they have to hurt. They do not truly care about immigrants as they only want their votes.

To paraphrase, they don’t care about America or Americans.  They just want power

Just out of curiosity, could someone explain why we have the electoral college in the first place?  I’m just wondering what types of excuses that people will come up with in order to not say the true reason for it.

In your opinion, what is the true reason the electoral college exists?

Why don’t you tell us instead.  It has already been posted a couple of times

I’ll give you a hint.  So one candidate doesn’t win 16 states and become president.  It makes the candidate have to politic across the country, gives smaller states good representation and something else

Is that why it was started?  I don’t think so.

So that NEITHER popular vote NOR congress could select the President - 12th amendment changed that.
Madison and Hamilton did not like the idea of winner take all electoral college, Hamilton had drafted an amendment to prevent winner take all and at large electors - but died before he could propose it.

The original idea came from the Virginia plan that used the congress to elect the president.  It was just a model, but was never given real consideration as the framers didn’t want Congress electing due to them wanting a separation of powers.  The electoral college we have now was a compromise of a national popular vote and a congressional elected president.  So yes, you are correct on that part, but it gives better representation to the entire country instead of the more heavily populated areas.  They discovered this after they put it into use
