The Hellishness of Hell

Many people today don’t believe in Hell. Many of the false denominations don’t even teach about hell anymore. By eliminating the reality of hell from their teaching, they are denying the TRUTH spoken by our Lord when He was on the Earth teaching. Hell is spoken of by Jesus more than any other person in the Bible. We are given a description of Hell by Him.

Mark 9:42-48

Jesus tells us that hell is a place where the worm does not die, and the fire is never put out. Hell is a place in the outer darkness, where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 25:30

Hell is a place of eternal punishment. These descriptions sound like hell is a horrible place. However, they do not capture the TRUE hellishness of Hell.  Let’s take a short time today and look at what the true hellishness of hell really is.

First let's do some groundwork.  Before we look at the true hellishness of Hell, I want you to paint a mental picture. The picture I want you to paint is what EVERYONE will see at the second coming.

Here are some of the things that we will all see on that glorious last day.

Every human who has ever lived will see Jesus in person. No proxy will come. It won’t be Michael or Gabriel or any other angel who shows up as a proxy. Jesus Himself will come back.

I Thessalonians 4: 16

Every human who has ever lived will see His glory. We will see His beauty. We will see His magnificence. We will see all of this for the first time. On that last day, Judgment Day, all unbelievers will finally believe. On that last day, we will finally see the One who came to earth, and gave His life to save us from our sins.

We will also see His mighty angels. The Bible says that Jesus will come with His mighty angels.

II Thessalonians 1: 6 - 7

In this age, if angels appear at all, we most certainly don’t know it.

Hebrews 13:2

But on that day, we’ll all  see His mighty and powerful angels.

On that last day we will all see the dead raised up. Jesus tells us that this will be a marvel.

John 5: 25 - 29

The risen dead will NOT be in the body that has rotted in the grave.

 I Corinthians 15: 35 - 44

Picture just how wonderful and awesome it will be for every human who has ever existed to see the immeasurable power of God in that moment.

On that last day, we will see creation destroyed. Peter says the heavens will pass away, the elements will melt, and the earth will be burned up.

II Peter 3: 10

The Sun, stars, planets, mountains, rocks, all the things that have stood since creation, will be gone. Once again, this will be a testament to the awesome power of God to both CREATE – and to DESTROY!

On that last day, we will see the final judgment. This will also be a testament to the awesome power of God to know all things. Hebrews 4: 13

Not only does He know all things, but the power of His awesome wrath shall be revealed. This will be a fearful event for unbelievers. Even the saints shall never forget this day.

Having established what every single human who has ever existed will see on the last day, let’s look at the real hellishness of hell.

For one moment we will all be in the presence of God and His power. Then, in the blink of an eye, it will be gone forever for those who are lost.

Matthew 25: 41

The most devastating aspect of hell for those who end up there is the eternal memory of the glory of God. A glory that they will never see again because they did not obey Him while they were alive.
