Dickey's son, Ricky called me this morning about the news of his father passing away. Ricky is now the AD/HC at Alto High School.

Dickey was very instrumental in changing the culture of East Texas championship level football when he arrived at Chapel Hill from Louisiana. It was a run of others coming into the area, eventually Pat Collins, John King, Mike Vallery and even John Outlaw to Lufkin from Sherman, but prior to that, Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

Dickey Meeks was head coach at Chapel Hill, Pine Tree, Mount Vernon, Henderson, Pittsburg and back at Mount Vernon where he retired in 2016. He is a member of the East Texas High School Coaches Association.

RIP to a great Gentleman and Man.

Condolences to our wonderful leader and his family in the loss of their extraordinary father. Coach Meeks was blessed to see his son take on his first head coaching job at Alto and to enjoy coming to most of the games over the last two years. I know how proud Debbie and Coach Meeks have been and what an amazing experience for our Coach Meeks to have been able to coach with his dad those years. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family.
