I don't see the Argyle band and drill team at the game tonight......I don't like that when there is enough room for them.  This allotment stuff is just not fair to the band and drill team members that have put in lots of time and work.  Somehow and some way the UIL should figure out a way to allow the band and drill teams to travel and perform at all the games on the schedule.  Put in some endzone bleachers if there is not enough seating to space them out.  It can be done and is done at alot of games.

Good game but a little flag happy in the 2nd half.......both teams played hard.  Celina exposed some of the weaknesses in the Argyle defense with a passing game that suddenly blossomed tonight.  Argyle did a commendable job against the run, but not the pass.  Congrats to QB Davenport on a good game......he showed his senior leadership tonight and his capabilities.  I think d0tc0m saw the improvement on offense he wanted to see and now knows this season's Celina team will improve and progress well into the playoffs.

Final

Argyle 35

Celina 21

Somewhere in the neighborhood of what I thought the final score might be.  I've seen every game Argyle has ever played Celina in football.

Argyle burned clock with lots of runs in the 4th quarter to get out of dodge with no serious injuries.  A few Argyle and Celina players got a little banged up tonight, but nothing I think to prevent them from a speedy recovery.   CJ Rogers threw for 3 TD's and ran for two......one a 40 yd scamper.  Celina brought pressure tonight and gave CJ  a taste of what it's like to be chased and hit.  Overall.....CJ passed those tests and endured. He made some good plays with his feet and also showed some poise under duress.  He was also sacked a couple of times and had to get rid of the ball sometimes.  The learning curve for the players became real tonight for both teams.  There will be plenty of teaching for both coaching staffs next week.

And BTW.......Argyle didn't beat Celina like "chopped barbecue"......LOL.   Some of these guys just don't understand all the dynamics.  Celina has some talent and playmakers on their team.......and very good team speed too.  And a very good defense.  And now an effective passing game they can mix with their ground game.   Tonight could be the last game Celina loses all season.......or until very late in the season to end their season.

First of all, Argyle is as advertised. Playmakers all over the field. Rogers is, in my opinion, every bit as good as Hogenboom, if not better, simply because of his size, strength and ability to beat you with his feet. A seemingly endless stream of receivers who run crisp routes, mesh really well together and just understand the game. The offensive line is something else. I know some other schools may have really good, perhaps bigger, lines. But the Eagles have three DI guys, and it shows. They are crazy to watch. Just so good. Argyle looks head and shoulders above everybody else in Div. I except for maybe Lampasas at this point in the season. The key for the Eagles this year is just not to peak. If they continue to progress. If they continue to adapt. If they continue to clean up just a few things on defense, then they’re going to have a good Christmas. Right now, maybe only two teams in Div. I have what it takes to go with Argyle. The Eagles need to make sure they progress in a way that they keep that kind of gap between them and the rest of the field.

Regal, you said it earlier, but I was proud of the progress I saw from the Bobcats, offensively. Not nearly where we need to be yet, but it was very clear the coaches were making some changes, and it paid some dividends already. I was proud of Davenport for the way he got better this week. Some of that was simply the play calling which helped him. Some of it was just more poise and experience back there. I love the way he played. That said, I do think Bentley is the long term answer, and the future is bright with him at QB. But Davenport will likely still get the nod, and he has a chance to really shine in the next few weeks.

Celina had a number of starters out this week on both sides, that I wasn’t aware would be out. Martinez was out at RB, so sophomores Hollins and Taylor took all the snaps.

Defensively, we were without our starting safety in Caden Knowles — also a receiver and return specialist, and one of the fastest guys on the team — we were without a starting DE, and had a WR converted this week to a DB. We lost our starting MLB Hunter Neely, who is a beast, early in the first, and that forced our other starting DE to shift to OLB and our other OLB to shift to MLB. By the second quarter and then into the second half, we were running our third string guys out there, most of them sophomores with a couple juniors, and at times it showed. But I am very very proud of them for the way they handled themselves against a superior team. Listen, Argyle really really focused on slowing the game down in the second half, letting that big o-line just lean forward and control the clock, and they did a good job of it. They didn’t open it up as much offensively as they could have, but when they did, Celina’s defense responded. And I was super proud of those guys.

This loss was not nearly as heartbreaking and defeating as the two weeks prior. This loss showed some good things for the Bobcats, and it showed the things that can be cleaned up to get this team where it wants to be.

I can say with 100% confidence, Celina will not play another team even close to being on Argyle’s level until at least the semifinals. They may not play a team on Melissa’s level even until then.

IF Celina can keep going with the progress they showed this week, if they can make a few changes on the offensive line, and if they can get and stay healthy, the Bobcats won’t lose another game until at least December. The record looks ugly, but the Bobcats could be one of the better 0-3 teams in the state, and there’s plenty of things to feel good about moving forward for Celina.

I totally concur.......enough said.  Celina has talent in all areas to make this team a very difficult out for the rest of the way......IMHO.  They should have beat Paris, but did not capitalize and convert on a few key opportunities.  A good football team like Paris took advantage and pulled out the W in OT.  Celina should have kicked the field goal in OT.  But that's all history now.  Paris played very well on defense in that game......better than against PG for sure.  But they may have been a little beat up this week when they played PG last night......Celina can be very physical.  Good Luck to the Bobcats the rest of the way.........I think we will see your Bobcats in the Regional Finals for sure and maybe the State Semifinals.

Ok,ok, I will go ahead and eat my Crow! It actually started out like I thought it would but Celina definitely made some huge improvements this week. Celina fans definitely have to be happy. Regal can you put plenty of seasoning on that crow for me, I’ve heard it’s pretty blah.

No crow needed for you........Argyle did win convincingly enough and controlled the game, but did not choose to score much in the 2nd half.  Coach Rodgers opted for the run to burn clock and get out of dodge instead of throwing the ball so much.  The last TD was against the backups and was really not an issue.  Just not chopped barbecue......more like chipped beef......cheap stuff, LOL.

La Vega posters are being mighty quiet this week in the biggest game of the week in the state this week.  They are typically quiet and "close to the vest" about their football team.......like they are protecting some unknown secrets.  I've got news for them........Argyle knows the LV QB Rauls is out with an injury and that Jordan Rogers played some at QB against Calallen behind center.  Not sure who LV is getting ready to take that spot, but I seriously doubt that it will be Rogers against Rogers at QB for these two teams this week......LOL.  But it could be.......since he's also listed as a RB as well as the MLB and he did play at RB at times last season.  He can definitely run with it, and probably has a good grasp of the offense since he's a senior.  He may be the natural best choice for LV........we'll have to wait until gametime to see since none of the LV posters will chime in.

You've got to conclude that the loss of Ara Rauls as the QB is a major problem for LV on the offensive side.......just look at their offensive numbers for the season so far.  Not too impressive.......just getting by on that side of the ball so far.  Good thing they have such a good defense and those really good RB's that are capable of breaking a big one at anytime, Huh?  But now teams will be able to stack the line and load up on the run......now that Rauls isn't back there with the passing threat.  It's not easy to just insert a QB into the lineup and expect him to automatically be able to be proficient at hitting his targets in real gametime speed against quality teams......just sayin'.  Last year LV had Rauls as their backup......who is the backup to Rauls this season???   It can't be the MLB Jordan Rogers!!  IF it is, then that weakens the LV defense......even if he plays both ways.
