Outstanding Student Athletes Selected in Week 3 of Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week Program

 

·        Class 4-A: KeAmodre Horace, Senior, Running Back, Center

 

·        Class 3-A: Mario Sanchez, Senior, Quarterback, Denver City

 

·        Class 2-A: Anson Rendon, Senior, Running Back/Defensive Back, Lockney

 

PLANO, Texas, Sept. 16, 2020 – The top high school football stars have been recognized in the 3^rd week of the 2020 Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week program. Despite the unusual circumstances, with a delayed start for 5A and 6A schools, the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week program is back. Since 2006, the program has recognized these outstanding athletes. Now in its fifteenth year, the program has celebrated many future college and professional standouts during their Texas high school careers.

 

This week’s winning athletes join a long list of remarkable players recognized for their exceptional efforts.

 

Week 3 winners

Class 4A: KeAmodre Horace, Senior, RB, Center High School

 

There was little doubt who was getting the ball on Friday, but there was also little chance of stopping him. Center’s KeAmodre Horace turned in a career night in leading the Roughriders to a 41-40 win over Gladewater, carrying 24 times for 391 yards and five touchdowns. Horace, a 2,000-yard rusher a year ago, is apace to eclipse that mark – having already rushed for 729 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns through three games. He’s averaging 15.2 yards per carry this season.

“He’s the engine - our go-to guy. You have to have someone who can do those things in those situations and those ballgames, and he’s definitely that person. The sky is the limit for him because of the type of person he is more than the kind of football player he is. He’s a humble kid, and you would never know by the way he carries himself how great a football player he is. There’s a reason his teammates made him a captain.”  – Center Coach Scott Ponder

Class 3A: Mario Sanchez, Senior, QB, Denver City High School

 

Denver City quarterback Mario Sanchez put together his best performance of the season so far this past Friday night. The senior signal caller was a dual threat, accounting for 467 of the team’s 545 yards of total offense and all seven touchdowns in the Mustangs’ 50-36 victory over Seminole.

Sanchez did most of his work on the ground, finishing with 171 yards rushing on 26 carries and five touchdowns. Through the air, Sanchez went 17 of 23 for 296 yards and two scores. The 296 yards passing and the five touchdowns are both career-best marks during his time as the Denver City quarterback. The Mustangs moved to 2-1 on the season thanks in large part to Sanchez’s leadership.

Class 2A: Anson Rendon, Senior, RB/DB, Lockney High School

 

The Lockney Longhorns defeated the Boys Ranch Roughriders 24-12, but the story was all about Senior, two-way player Anson Rendon.  Anson was all over the field and contributed on every score as he amassed 303 yards rushing, 3 touchdowns, 3 two-point conversions. If this wasn’t enough, he caught 1 pass for 11 yards, made 4 solos tackles and broke up 2 passes.

Rendon has 458 yards through 2 games and has set himself up and his team to have a fantastic season.

Each week, television crews will travel to communities across Texas, spotlighting players who excel on the field, in the classroom and in their communities. The half-hour Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week program will air on Fridays at 9:30AM.

 

How the program works
The Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week program recognizes one high school student-athlete in six of the state’s athletic classifications each week of the regular season.

 

Nominees must excel in three categories:

 

• Individual performance on the field, including significant statistics from that week’s game

• Contribution to the team’s success through individual leadership abilities

• Performance off the field, including academic success and good community citizenship

 

At the end of the regular season, Ford and its advisory board will select one student-athlete from the 10 weekly winners to be the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Year in each classification. Following the championship games, honorees will once again be recognized at a banquet.
