9-5A enters the bye week with some highly anticipated games on the horizon for the top contenders of the district

Pine Tree will travel to Marshall to open district play in a huge game for both teams.

The Pirates enter the game (2-0-1) with the last game being called off at halftime due to power issues with the stadium lights.  The game was in a 10-10 deadlock when the plug was pulled (no pun intended).

The Pirates have compiled their record with 55-33 win over Princeton and a 63-28 win over Crandall.

Marshall enters the game at (2-1) and is coming off a 48-22 win on the road at 5A Div I McKinney North (0-2).  They also have a 34-26 win over 5A Div I New Caney, who is (2-1) on the season.  The Maverick's loss was a dominating 52-21 falter to Longview.

Marshall leads the overall series (29-9-1).

The Mavs have won 8 consecutive games Vs. PT and 16 of 18 since dropping classification in 2002.

I'll get more info up about the game as we get a little closer.

Pine Tree is (2-11) at Maverick Stadium.  Last win came in 1985.

Marshall has scored at least 40 points in 11 of their 18 meetings since dropping classification in 2002.

------

Marshall needs to control the game with its offense.  Score early and often.  Keep PT's offense on the sidelines. Make some defensive stops.  Wear their defense out.

We did a fantastic job of this for 3 and a half quarters last season.  Had a 38-19 lead over halfway through the final stanza.

We got lazy late in the game and PT never stopped.  Turned a total blowout into a bit of a buttpucker.  That game NEVER should have been that close.

We can't do that this season.  Foot on the gas and never let up.

The Mav offense is better this season than it was last season thus far IMHO.  Time for the defense to bow up.

The Mavericks are currently in the midst of their longest district winning streak in program history.  They currently have a 25 game district winning streak dating back to 2016.

Marshall is (31-2) in district play since 2015.  They are (35-5) since 2014.

During this streak, the Mavs have won three consecutive district championships and four in the last five seasons.

Last year's team shattered the streak held by the 1987-1990 Mavs that won 18 consecutive district games.

The good fortunes began in September of 2016 with a 56-13 win over Sulphur Springs.  SInce then the Mavs have rattled off 25 consecutive.

The streak will be tested in the 9-5A district opener when the Pine Tree Pirates come to town.  Pine Tree has had one of the most prolific offenses in region.

Texarkana and Whitehouse are also off to quick (3-0) starts this season.  The Tigers have become the odds- on favorite for the title.

The Mavs have been to the playoffs 7 consecutive seasons and 13 of the last 16 seasons.
