PatsFan
I couldn't agree more with everyone's comments on here. No excuse for this type of behavior. More "sideline guys" should have been paying closer attention to what was happening, I mean #72 turned when he heard "ejected" and he knew this kid was gonna blow up. On a separate note - Remember that your local chapter of refs is accepting applications for next football season
GoodOleBoy73
No place for this at all. Should be punished to the fullest extent to make sure this doesn't happen again.

It may be a little early to be bringing this up, but if this is a trend, how do you police it? “Nip it in the bud” so to speak? Obviously, penalties against that particular player aren’t going to work, because he has no regard for how his actions affect his team. Does there need to be a rule in place so coaches think about the type kids they’re putting on the field? Like maybe awarding the win to the opposing team and forcing a forfeit in the next game as well? Idk. I know a lot of coaches like having kids “with an edge”, but in some cases, its walking a very thin line. This cannot be allowed to continue. Officials are hard to come by as it is. We can’t allow them to be targeted in this manner. I haven't put too much thought into it yet, but I think I like the idea of simply stopping the game and awarding the win to the other team if you have a player or coach on your team swing at, punch, or do any other threaten any kind of physical harm to an official. It wouldn't happen too often, but the action is so egregious, I think it merits an instant and automatic forfeit. Also, the team of refs on that game shouldn't be expected to continue with a game after this kind of action.
Coach0001
Also just read this kid assaulted a Soccer official last year apparently So should he have even been on the field? Absolutely a criminal case needs to happen Another good reason an ejected player should immediately have to leave the field!

When you get ejected the coach must escort him off the field and out of the stadium. They just went back to the sidelines and the coach that escorted him to the sideline leaves him and starts walking away from the kid. This would of never happened if that coach stays by his side and walks him out of the stadium like he is suppose to do! Also kid should of never been playing anyways like you said

I have some thoughts on why it changed and it’s what’s wrong with many things in society today. This incident may get the rule back in place

I agree it makes you wonder what their athletic policy is on this type of thing. I do feel for his teammates though. There is still a chance the team faces UIL discipline for the actions of one player. They clinched a playoff birth last night. Talk about a bad teammate.
BlackBeard
The ref that was tackled should file assault charges against the player and then sue the school for allowing the player to get back on the field. I hope the ref gets at least a 6 figure settlement.
Greenville
Same as the others on here. Charge him as an adult. Punish him to the full extent of the law. And just for good measure, disqualify Edinburg from the playoffs. They won that game to clinch a playoff spot. Make an example of the entire program.

This kid (and I use the term loosely) was wrestling during soccer season. He made it to the state championships last year so I don't know how he could've assaulted another ref then when he was taking part in a different sport. Where did you read this.
