My thoughts are ND had their chance to validate themselves and didnt. Everyone was saying their win vs clemson the first time was essentially bs because of the players missing for clemson. ND had their chance to prove that wrong and didnt. The recent loss coupled with how they loss is enough for me to think A&M should get the nod.

What I think

1. Bama

2. Clemson

3. Ohio st

4. A&M

What will happen

1 Bama

2. Clemson

3. Ohio st

4. ND

this should be your 8 team playoff

Alabama

clemson

ohio state

notre dame

Texas a&m

oklahoma

cincinatti

florida

1v5, 2v6, 3v7, 4v8

Just curious, but why that seeding format? It doesn't make sense to reward the lower teams more than the higher teams.

Alabama Florida was a good game. I’d watch a rematch of 1v8.

Clemson Cincinnati would show real quick how a non Power 5 school matches up. 2v7

Ohio State Oklahoma would answer a lot of questions about both teams. 3v6

Notre Dame Texas A&M. Who’s a contender and who’s a pretender. 4v5

Better matchups.  At this point in a season the top 3-4 teams are typically close enough.  This is to make the matchups as good as you can instead awarding the #1 team the easiest game.  The fans deserve good games

This is what I think the committee will do.

1. Alabama

2. Clemson

3. Ohio State

4. Notre Dame.

A&M lost by 28 to the #1 team. Notre Dame lost by 24 points to the #2 team. That’s a wash to me.

A&M’s best win a win over a three loss Florida team at home by 3. A&M’s second best win is against a team that performed so badly they fired their coach in a pandemic.

Notre Dame has the win against short handed Clemson in overtime at home plus the win against a top 15 team (NC) on the road by 14 points.

What is the point of being #1 if you have a harder path?

Alabama

Clemson

Ohio St

Cincinnati

In reality 3 and 4 don’t matter. Alabama is the best offensive team and Clemson has the best defense. Ohio St would keep it close vs Clemson but I think Bama beats them by 3 scores. Notre Dame doesn’t have the athletes to compete with 1&2. ATM  doesn’t have the QB or the secondary. Cincinnati probably doesn’t have the athletes to play with 1&2 either but 2020 is a good year to show the G5 doesn’t belong.

We could just skip the playoff this year and watch Bama vs Clemson.

I am interested to see what the bowl games look like without such a long lay off in between games. It’s almost just like a normal game week.

We are going to see numerous bowl games cancelled IMO.  USC and Penn State have already opted out of playing a bowl game.

According to the big man in charge of the CFP:

wins over top 25 teams matters (more the better)

total games played doesn’t matter (just win baby)

conference championships matter

Let’s use this and look at a team that’s not in the top 6 of their rankings.

Cincinnatti Bearcats

3 wins against top 25 teams(#22 Army, #16 SMU, #23 Tulsa)

8-0 in games played

AAC Champions

#8 ranking one CFP behind #6 Oklahoma (8-2 BIG12 champs) and #7 Florida (8-3)
