Maybe you aren’t from Texas and don’t know the saying “Ft Worth, where the west begins.”

And just for the record, Brock falls under DFW coverage... but only because the Star Telegram loves riding the jocks of championship schools.  Mineral Wells, Weatherford, Peaster, Springtown, Azle are all closer to Ft Worth but the Star Telegram ignores them until they are winning leaving all of the coverage out west for smaller independent newspapers to cover.

Yes, we are “west Texas” but never in terms of geographical considerations in Dave Campbells and the other major coverage because the big papers would come drooling at the Mineral Wells field house the moment they thought we could win state.

Ill agree until you get to Ennis then follow 34 up to the Texoma area

the problem with "East" is that the "South East" also calls themselves "east Texas."  So it gets sketchy in talking circles about who is what and where.  Like Denton has a clear "North Texas" geographical region, but when does "North" end and "Panhandle" begin.  Where does Wichita Falls fit?  When you go West, where does Stephenville fit?  Graham?  Does the "South" start just south of Houston in El Campo?

It's not that important to me.  We used to try and throw Lufkin in the Houston region because UIL decided to get cute and put them in a district with Houston Schools.  Longview and Tyler have DFW schools in their district... should we claim Highland Park and Mesquite as East Texas, or should we ship Longview and Tyler off to DFW?  Sulphur Springs and Greenville are just as close to DFW as their are East Texas.  Same for Canton for the most part.

So what we are really doing are lumping in coaching styles and player styles into regions.   "You don't see RBs like AP in West Texas."  Or "That Rio Grande kid runs like he was born in Longview."

It's a fun debate, but it never really matters.

Exhibit A:

Girls Basketball: 8 State Championships

Boys Basketball: 12 State Tournament Appearances (3 titles)

Football: 1 state championship

Verdict: Basketball School

Let's be honest - They wouldn't have that one football trophy if Traion Smith hadn't gotten hurt.
