If Carr would learn to he wouldn’t keep losing at state

He sticks with it.

I have seen the man full court press a team down to four players late into the fourth quarter when they were up by 90.

Hard to win a game where one team shoots 37 free throws to your 10.

Even harder to win when you miss 52 shots.

Didn't see the game, but good defense and percentage shots go a loong way in these playoff scenarios.  Causing your opponent to take shots they are not comfortable with and controlling the pace can give transition teams fits.

Yea you’re right.... you didn’t see the game.

Tatum folks aren't going to like this but Carr's basketball philosophy was exposed. It was really exposed vs Madison, but luckily some good shots and a stalling Madison O bailed them out.

Its the same problem Tatum has always and will have under Carr. You are winning with superior genetics pressing and hoping volume threes keep you in tight games. When Tatum plays a team that can break their press and force them into a half court game they struggle. Tatum has 0 half court offense, no movement, no patience. If they score a two its off a steal. Defensively there is no adjustment ever. The refs called a consistent game. They never changed the way they called and Tatum never changed the way they played. No duh the foul count got wild.

Looks great when you beat the Harelton's of the world by a 100 pressing the whole time and claim "thats just what we do". But when you've taken no time to prepare a half court game and prepare for a skilled and disciplined team like Cole you're going to get exposed, its a Carr specialty.

I get what you’re saying and agree with some. That being said missing 52 shots had nothing to do with halfcourt defense.

  • A lot of teams will take "losing at state" over the alternative any day of the week.  They struggled to shoot the ball...it is what it is.  No amount of half-court offense is going to change a bad shooting night.  They shoot 40% from the field in the first half, which is not unreasonable, they are up 37-30 at half and feeling a lot better about themselves.  Would they have won, no clue....but teams have bad shooting nights.  Also, if two kids have nights like SA Cole's kids, 58 points between them, then you are in for a battle.  It's easy to see what went wrong and say you'd do something different.....harder when it's happening in real time.  One last thing, remembering the last time Tatum went to finals against Ponder, they got a big lead then started playing conservatively.  I'm sure it's kept Carr up nights wishing he would have just kept doing what Tatum does.
