Texas high defense showed up no doubt...pine tree had a few first downs but with the tackles for lost I’d be willing to bet pine tree didn’t have over 60 yards of offense. Wind was terrible but I’m glad I made the trip. Sounds like I should went to le - springhill . very good gm

Pine Tree run off the field I'm sad to say went to the game and we aren't on the level of Texas High

No one in 9-5A is.

Their defense is another level.

9-5A Standings
Texas High (6-0) (4-0)
Marshall (4-3) (3-1)
Pine Tree (4-3) (2-2)
Mount Pleasant (2-4) (2-2)
Nacogdoches (2-5) (2-2)
Hallsville (2-5) (2-2)
Jacksonville (1-6) (1-3)
Whitehouse (0-7) (0-4)

Week 8 Games
Texas High beat Pine Tree 38-0
Marshall beat Whitehouse 26-13
Hallsville beat Mount Pleasant 26-20
Nacogdoches beat Hallsville 27-14

The last three weeks of this season could be REALLY WILD.  Texas High dominated Pine Tree Friday night to keep their strangle-hold on the top spot intact.  Marshall's defense drug their offense kicking and screaming to a victory over Whitehouse to put the Mavericks in sole possession of second place.  Neither Texas nor Marshall have clinched playoff spots, but they control their own destinies concerning the post-season and hosting playoff games in the first round.

After that......things get muddy when it comes to the playoff chase.  There is a FOUR way tie for third place between Pine Tree, Hallsville, Mt. Pleasant, and Nacogdoches.  Who will be left out in the cold????

Hallsville's win over MP derailed what many thought was the Tiger's best shot at the playoffs in several years.  The Tigers still have the tie-breaker over Nac head to head.  Pine Tree has the tie-breaker over Nac.  Hallsville has the tie breaker over MP.  The bad news for Nac is that the Dragons still have Texas High and Marshall on their schedule.

This sets up some MONSTER games for week 9:

Hallsville Vs. Nacogdoches-  This is a HUGE game for both squads.  The winner will likely find themselves in a tie for third place with Pine Tree at the end of the night.  A Hallsville win over Nac sets up back-to-back rivalry games for the Bobcats Vs. Marshall in week 10 and Pine Tree in week 11.  A loss by the Bobcats would damage their playoff hopes headed into those final two games.  A Nac loss would be devastating for the Dragon's playoff aspirations as they close out the season in Texarkana and then hosting Marshall.  A loss to the Bobcats would make it an uphill battle headed into the final two weeks.

Marshall Vs. Mount Pleasant-  This is another big game for each team.  A Marshall win would all but clinch a playoff spot for the Mavs.  However.... a loss would drop them into the messy tiebreaker party taking place in the district race.  A loss by MP wouldn't end their playoff hopes, but it makes it more difficult with PT following in week 10.  They still have Jacksonville on the schedule in the regular season finale.  A MP win puts them in great shape for the playoffs, likely clinching with a win over Jacksonville.

Pine Tree Vs. Whitehouse-  WH has not been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs... YET.....but they would need to win out and get a LOT of help to get in.  A Wildcat loss will seal their fate for 2021.  Meanwhile...PT needs this win to keep pace with the winner of the Nac/Hallsville game.  If PT wins... and Hallsville beats Nac.... that sets up a BARNBURNER season finale against their long-time Bobcat rivals.  A PT win coupled with a Nac win puts the Pirates in good shape as they have the tie-breaker over the Dragons headed into the season finale.

Jacksonville Vs. Texas High- Texas High clinches with a win.... Jacksonville's playoff hopes will end with a loss.  Texarkana has a one game lead over Marshall for the district championship.... and a win gets them another step towards winning their second straight district title.  If the Tribe were to pull off the monstrous upset...it would keep their dim playoff hopes alive another week.

Big games for Week 9!!!  Pick one and head out..... looks to be a photo finish for the post-season.

10-5A Standings
Montgomery (7-0), (3-0)
AMC (6-2), (3-1)
Rudder (7-1), (3-1)
Lamar Consolidated (2-4) (1-1)
Fulshear (4-3), (1-2)
Lake Creek (4-3) (0-3)
Huntsville (2-4) (0-3)

Week 8 Games
Montgomery beat A&M Consolidated 35-28
Rudder beat Fulshear 17-12
Lake Creek Vs. Lamar Consolidated - SATURDAY @ 2PM
Huntsville- BYE

This is turning out to be a fantastic race.   Montgomery got a huge win over AMC Friday to take sole possession of first place.  AMC dropped in to a tie for second place with Rudder thanks to the Ranger's win over Fulshear.  This sets up a showdown for second place next Friday between AMC and Rudder.  Lamar Consolidated can take sole possession of fourth place with a Saturday win over Lake Creek.  The fourth place spot still appears to be somewhat wide open.

Playoff picture is still pretty fuzzy for both districts.  Upsets and point differentials could throw a wrench into all of this in the final three weeks.

Possible, Maybe, Probably Not Bi-District match-ups
Lamar Consolidated/Lake Creek winner @ Texas High
AMC/Rudder loser @ Marshall
Pine Tree @ AMC/Rudder winner
Hallsville/Nac winner @ Montgomery

I know this isn't in our region....but here's how things look for the other East Texas 5A Div II District

8-5A Standings
Ennis (4-0), (7-0)
Royse City (4-0), (7-0)
Forney (4-0), (5-2)
Corsicana (2-2), (5-2)
Crandall (2-2), (4-3)
Greenville (0-4), (1-6)
North Forney (0-4), (1-6)
Sulphur Springs (0-4), (0-7)

Ennis beat Crandall 66-21
Royse City beat North Forney 55-13
Forney beat Greenville 35-0
Corsicana beat Sulphur Springs 41-28

A district of haves and have nots.  Three teams are unbeaten headed into the final three weeks.  Three teams are winless in district.... and Crandall and Corsicana are battling for the #4 slot.

The final three weeks will see all those undefeated teams face-off for district supremecy.

Week 9 Games
Ennis Vs. Forney-  The winner will likely remain in a tie for first with Royse City.  Loser falls into 3rd place.

Royse City Vs. Crandall-  Barring an upset... RC will be in a tie for first with the winner of the Ennis/Forney game.

Greenville Vs. Sulphur Springs- Winner gets out of last place.

Corsicana Vs. North Forney- Corsicana can take sole possession of fourth with the win coupled with a Crandall loss to RC

Man Huntsville sure has dropped off from what it was.

I'm not counting them out for getting that #4 slot.  It's a longshot....but they have been one of the top teams in Region III for a while now.

Most teams have rebuilding years.  Few programs escape that pain.

Not counting them out either they have Montgomery and Fulshear left on schedule but  Huntsville still can makes the playoffs if they win out. Be surprised if they don’t win one of those games

Still so much to work out in the final three weeks of the season.  But in some cases...it would require some pretty big upsets.  That said.... those can and do happen.  But here is what I've come up with....

Texas High 4-0
Marshall 3-1
MP 2-2
Nac 2-2
Pine Tree 2-2
Hallsville 2-2
Jacksonville 1-3
Whitehouse 0-4

----
Montgomery 3-0
AMC 3-1
Rudder 3-1
Fulshear 1-2
Lamar Consolidated 1-2
Lake Creek 1-3
Huntsville 0-3

Matchups this week
Huntsville Vs. Lake Creek
Lamar Consolidated at Montgomery
AMC at Fulshear
Rudder- OFF
Hallsville Vs. Nac
Marshall Vs MP
Texas High Vs. Jax
PT Vs. WH

Obviously some of these are toss ups.  Some have favorites.  I'm going to look at no upsets on this look... which means things will look like this after Friday

Huntsville over Lake Creek (toss-up)
Montgomery over Lamar Consol
AMC over Fulshear
Nac over Hallsvile (toss-up)
Marshall over MP
Texas High over Jax
PT over WH

Montgomery 4-0
AMC 4-1
Rudder 3-1
Fulshear 1-3
Huntsville 1-3
Lamar Consolidated 1-3
Lake Creek 1-4

A Lake Creek win over Huntsville wouldn't be an upset especially seeing how they dominated Lamar Consolidated Saturday.  If they get the win that would jump them to 2-4 and in third place.  But I just got a sneaking feeling Huntsville is going to find ways to win some of the final games.  The rest of the games in 10-5A look like heavy favorites Vs big underdogs.

9-5A looks more competitive this week.  Obviously the Nac/Hallsville game is enormous.  The winner of that game will likely be in a third place tie with PT (who SHOULD beat WH).  Marshall is a favorite over MP...but can't be overlooked.  A MP win would make a HUGE tie for second place between Marshall, MP, PT, and the winner of the Hallsville/Nac game.  Barring that MP upset.... things will look something like this......

Texas High 5-0
Marshall 4-1
Pine Tree 3-2
Nac 3-2 (can be switched with Hallsville)
Hallsville 2-3 (can be switched with Nac)
Mount Pleasant 2-3
Jacksonville 1-4
WH 0-5

-----------

Which leads us to next week.

Rudder Vs. AMC
Montgomery Vs. Huntsville
Fulshear Vs. Lamar Consolidated
Lake Creek- OFF
MP Vs. PT
Hallsville Vs. Marshall
Nac Vs. Texas High
Whitehouse Vs. Jacksonville

Predicted winners:  AMC, Montgomery, Fulshear/Lamar PT, Marshall, Texas High, WH

Montgomery 5-0
AMC 5-1
Rudder 3-2
Fulshear 2-3
Huntsville 1-4
Lamar Consolidated 1-4
Lake Creek 1-4

AMC and Rudder could flip flop if Rudder gets the win over AMC.  But it would be an upset.  Race appears to be for fourth.

Texas High 6-0
Marshall 5-1
Pine Tree 4-2
Nac 3-3
Hallsville 2-4
Mount Pleasant 2-4
WH 1-5
Jacksonville 1-5

Obviously WH/Jax could swap whoever wins that game.  I'm taking WH because their defense seems to be better than Jax's.  The MP/PT game could have an upset alert.... but I think PT's defense will get them the win.  Marshall/Hallsville is an upset alert too because it's a rivalry... AND...if Hallsville beats Nac....  they could be red hot.  Still.... I take Marshall at home with their D.

-------------

Finally the regular season finale......

Lake Creek Vs. Montgomery
Huntsville Vs. Fulshear
Lamar Vs. Rudder
AMC- OFF
PT Vs. Hallsville
Jax Vs. MP
Marshall Vs. Nac
Texas High Vs. WH

Winners: Montgomery, Huntsville, Rudder, PT, MP, Marshall, Texas High

Montgomery 6-0
AMC 5-1
Rudder 4-2
Huntsville 2-4
Fulshear 2-4
Lamar Consolidated 1-5
Lake Creek 1-5

Montgomery takes the district title.  AMC will have the runner up slot with Rudder in #3 unless they upset AMC the week before.  Huntsville sneaks in at the #4 slot with their win over Fulshear (same thing they did in 2019).

Texas High 7-0
Marshall 6-1
Pine Tree 5-2
Mount Pleasant 3-4
Nac 3-4
Hallsville 2-5
WH 1-6
Jacksonville 1-6

Texas High take the title.  Marshall gets the runner up with a road revenge win over Nac.  PT beats their arch-rivals from Hallsville to wrap up #3 and MP will take the #4 slot because of their win over Nac.

My Predicted First round Match-ups:
Mount Pleasant (3-6) Vs. Montgomery (10-0)
Pine Tree (7-3) Vs. A&M Consolidated (8-2)
Bryan Rudder (8-2) Vs. Marshall (7-3)
Huntsville (4-5) Vs. Texas High (8-1)

Take all that with a grain of salt...because it could look NOTHING like this when the time comes.  But this is how I see it all playing out.

What a mess for 3rd and 4th. No way to predict what will happen. 2-7 are all playing the same level of football right now. Marshall will need to bring back that intensity or they will find themselves among the rubble.

1. T High 5-0

2. Marshall 4-1

3. Nac 3-2

4/5. Pine Tree 2-3

4/5. Hallsville 2-3

6. Mt. Pleasant 2-3

7.  Whitehouse 1-4

8. Jacksonville 1-4

No team has been eliminated with 2 games remaining. I can see Whitehouse making a late push after their Qb switch. Texas High is only team that has officially clinched a playoff spot.

Mount Pleasant (2-5) (2-3)

Whitehouse beat Pine Tree 21-14

Week 9 Recap
WHAT A NIGHT in 9-5A!!!!!

Without a doubt.... the upset of the night was Whitehouse's win over Pine Tree, handing the Pirates their third district loss, while the Wildcats collected their first win of the season.  The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead before PT pulled within 14-7.  However, the WH defense made the score stick as they added another score for the 21-14 final.  The loss puts PT in dire straits concerning the playoffs.  Whitehouse isn't mathematically eliminated, but they would need A LOT OF help to get in.  Pine Tree finds themselves in a three way tie for the fourth and final playoff spot with MP and Hallsville.

Marshall escaped Mt Pleasant with a monster come-from-behind win over the Tigers Friday night.  The Mavericks fell behind 21-7 midway through the third quarter before staging an unbelievable comeback in the fourth that saw Marshall take advantage of an MP fumble and and INT that were both converted to touchdowns to tie the game 21-21 with 6 mins left.  Marshall went ahead on a FG (24-21) with just over a min left in the game.  The Tigers made it interesting...getting deep into Marshall territory late in the game.  However, the FG attempt came up short.  Unbelievable... and exciting game in the second half.  Marshall remains all alone in second place, while MP is in a three way tie for fourth with PT and Hallsville.

Nacogdoches also overcame an early deficit to Hallsville to take a critical win Friday night.  The win gives the Dragons sole possession of third place in district, one game behind Marshall.  Hallsville is tied for fourth with Pine Tree and Mount Pleasant.

Looking to Week 10

Mount Pleasant Vs Pine Tree-  This is the game of the week in 9-5A.  The winner of this game remains in the thick of the playoff race.... while the loser will be on the verge of elimination.  The winner of this game will LIKELY be tied with Nac for third place (barring a Nac upset of Texas High) and also with Hallsville if the Bobcats upset Marshall.  Whoever loses this game will find themselves 1 game out of the #4 slot with only 1 game remaining.

Hallsville Vs. Marshall-  Another BIG game.  Obviously this is important because it's a rivalry game.  HHS and MHS are only 19 miles apart.  A Marshall win coupled with a Nac loss to Texarkana would clinch the #2 slot for the Mavs, ensuring they would host a first round playoff game.  However.... a Marshall loss would set up a monster showdown in the season finale Vs. Nacogdoches.  The winner of that game would host a playoff game while the loser would have to travel south for the first round.

Nacogdoches Vs. Texas High-  A THS win would clinch no less than a tie for the district championship for Texarkana.  A loss coupled with a Marshall win would drop the Tigers into a tie with the Mavs, however the Tigers would have the tie-breaker headed into the regular season finale.  Nac will be doing some scoreboard watching.  A Nac win coupled with a Marshall loss would pull the Dragons into a tie for second place headed into the season finale.  That game would decide who hosted...and who travels for a playoff game.  However..... a Nac loss and a Marshall win over Hallsville will clinch hosting for Marshall and Nac will still be fighting for a post season berth.  A Nac loss and a Marshall loss would also make the season finale decide the host/travel scenario as well.

Whitehouse Vs. Jacksonville-  Mathematically.... neither team is eliminated....but they would need to win out AND get a lot of help to get in.  This is a rivalry game and the winner will avoid the district cellar while the winner will keep their dim playoff hopes alive for another week.  WH is coming off a big upset win over Pine Tree.  Jax has lost four district games in a row.

Some BIG games!!!!! What a finish

---------------------------

10-5A Standings
Montgomery (8-0), (4-0)
AMC (7-2), (4-1)
Rudder (7-1), (3-1)
Fulshear (4-4), (1-3)
Lamar Consolidated (2-6) (1-3)
Huntsville (3-4) (1-3)
Lake Creek (5-4) (1-4)

Week 9 Games
Montgomery beat Lamar Consolidated 41-24
AMC beat Fulshear 27-6
Huntsville beat Lake Creek 40-28
Rudder- OFF

Week 10 Games
Rudder Vs. AMC
Montgomery Vs. Huntsville
Fulshear Vs. Lamar Consolidated
Lake Creek- OFF

Montgomery remains in control of things as they are the lone unbeaten team in the district.  After that... things are still very undecided.  AMC and Rudder are battling for the #2 spot.  AMC has a half game lead at the moment.  But they will battle next in a monster game.  The winner will take control of the #2 slot while the loser will settle in to the #3 spot.  The fourth place spot could be anyone as 4 teams are sitting with only 1 win in district.  The winner of the Fulshear/Lamar Consolidated game will be in better shape, while the loser will be on the verge of elimination.  Huntsville will need an upset of Montgomery to keep their playoff hopes alive.

---------------------------

8-5A Standings
Ennis (8-0), (5-0)
Royse City (8-0), (5-0)
Forney (5-3), (4-1)
Corsicana (6-2), (3-2)
Crandall (4-4), (2-3),
Greenville (2-6), (1-4)
North Forney (1-7), (0-5)
Sulphur Springs (0-8), (0-5)

Week 9 Games
Corsicana beat North Forney  43-34
Greenville beat Sulphur Springs 25-21
Ennis beat Forney 31-7
Royse City beat Crandall 65-63

Week 10 Games
Ennis Vs. Royse CIty
Forney Vs. Sulphur Springs
Crandall Vs. Corsicana
North Forney Vs. Greenville

Ennis and Royse City will have one of the premier games in the state as (8-0) Vs. (8-0) will face off.  What a game this could be!  Crandall and Corsicana has another big game in a battle for fourth place.  Crandall needs a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.  A Corsicana win all but wraps up a post season spot for the Tigers.  Forney looking to stay within striking distance of Ennis and RC.

I went and watched the PT/WH game and PT looked horrible. Playing like that I am not sure they win another district game. I think the book is out on their offense stop the running game and make the QB beat you. PT losing out would send MP and Nac. to the playoffs in the 3/4 spots if Marshall beats Hallsville this week. We will see what happens, I am not sure you can predict anything in this district at the moment.
