Stoney’s Week 1 NFL Preview

Dallas Cowboys @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

over/under 51.5 points, Tampa Bay -7.5 favorites

League opener between the reigning Super Bowl champs and America’s Team. Cowboys will be missing All Pro lineman Zack Martin, possibly La’el Collins. Not good news for a franchise QB returning from a broken ankle. With a young infusion of rookie talent on the defensive side for Dallas this will be a great test for them against Brady.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Houston Texans

over/under 44.5 points, Jags -3 favorites

An interesting game on paper and probably even more on the field. DeShaun Watson will not play due to his legal troubles. Urban Meyer will coach his first NFL game. Tyrod Taylor will start for the Texans. Trevor Lawrence for the Jags. Jaguars are in their annual “up and coming team” phase. Texans seem to be trending down.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons

over/under 48 points, Falcons -3.5 favorites

Battle of two new head coaches. Jalen Hurts takes over as QB1 in Philly after the offseason trade of Carson Wentz. The question is there enough talent around him? Atlanta should be a good testing point. Despite losing Julio Iones, Atlanta should still have enough offensive fire power to make this a high scoring game.

Los Angeles Chargers @ Washington Football Team

over/under 44.5 points, Chargers -1 favorites

This should be a good game. Justin Herbert appears to be the next in line of big armed Charger QBs. He’ll be going up against a good WFT defense. Chase Young looks like the next great edge rusher. Ryan Fitzpatrick takes over at QB for Ron Rivera. Washington looks like the competition for Dallas in the NFC East.

Denver Broncos @ New York Giants

over/under 41.5 points, Broncos -2.5 favorites

Broncos have some young talented players on offense but haven’t had the QB who can utilize them. Teddy Bridgewater takes over from Drew Lock as QB1. I’m not sure if that’s an improvement or not. Facing the Giants in week 1 should be a good test. The Giants have their own questions needing answers. Is Daniel Jones the answer at QB? Is Saqoun Barkley healthy? Can Jason Garrett’s offense help them teach their potential? Can the Giants defense keep them in games?
