cheaptrick77
Padres sign World Series hero Blum to one-year dealSAN DIEGO (Ticker) - After ensuring his place in Chicago White Sox history, Geoff Blum is ready to return to the San Diego Padres. Blum, who hit the go-ahead homer in the 14th inning of Game Three of the World Series, signed a one-year contract Wednesday with the Padres. Financial terms were not disclosed. The 32-year-old Blum signed with the Padres before last season and hit .241 with five homers and 22 RBI in 78 games before being dealt to the White Sox at the trade deadline for Minor League pitcher Ryan Meaux. Blum posted a .200 average in 95 at-bats in the regular season for Chicago but played a pivotal role in its run to its first championship since 1917. He drove a 2-0 pitch from Houston's Ezequiel Astacio just inside the right field foul pole to give the White Sox the lead in the 14th inning of their 7-5 win in the third game of a four-game sweep. In parts of seven seasons with five Major League teams, Blum owns a .251 average with 62 homers and 277 RBI in 791 games. He has started at all four infield positions in each of the last six campaigns. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Trivia nugget:Blum is one of only two players to hit a game-winning (or go-ahead) home run in his only at-bat of a World Series .......... Kirk Gibson with the 1988 Dodgers is the other.
shoelessjoelives
Bill Mazeroski, who was a .260 lifetime hitter, never saw that much money in his life. He still works to this day. Ahh, what should have been..............!!!! And Maz hit the biggest homer of all......bottom of the ninth, game seven of the World Series.........(nine days before, Maz had homered off of NY's Jim Coates giving Pittsburgh it's first World Series win since 1925)....when he homered off of Ralph Terry to give the Pirates a 10-9 win and the World Series crown.
