Amen to that, Cheapy !! Let Danks and Diamond have the full run of their development process before you start trying to take some 28 year old lefty who might just be damaged goods.

One pitch in his favor is that he would probably get some run support from the Rangers and in 92 career starts in which he has had 4 or more runs of support his record is 71-4 !!

Still keep Danks and Diamond no matter what !!

The most sensible deal for Texas is this, which might happen:

Manny and Soriano to Mets

Texiera, Floyd and Heilman to Boston

Arroyo, Benson, Seo, Bradford and Milledge to Texas

Texas won't keep Texiera after this next season anyway - if you can get two strong arms, a good 1B, BP help and a tremendous prospect, you pull that trigger.

Your crazy. Tex isnt going anywhere. Especially not for the most over paid pitcher in baseball. I know yall are desperate for a 1b but come on.

Hicks doesn't negoiate with Boras clients.

Texiera is a Boras client and will command 5/$70m (esp since Konerko just turned down $13m/year and he's really, really, really not that good).

And oh yeah, Floyd will not accpet a deal to the Mets so that kills your trade anyways.

Uh, Floyd is a Met.

And no one in their right mind will sign an eight year contract - that's absolutely inane.

If giving up Danks or Diamonds bring in Zito I'll accept it. Zito is only 24 years old and proven. There have been a whole host of pitchers who were "can't miss prospects" while in A or AA who never panned out to anything in the long run.

Even if the Rangers do trade one of them they still have Vasquez, Danks/Diamond and Eric Hurley. Not to mention whoever they end up trading for during the offseason.

Tex can't play for any other club barring a trade. Texas owns him out of college for six years, although the next three are arbitration-eligible. 2009 is the earliest he can go anywhere, thanks to the contract Boras got him when he was drafted.

At this point, it looks like Tex will be playing for the Rangers for a good while. No plans to trade him.

Danks and Diamond should be labeled "untouchable". The future of the franchise rests on their arms. Dealing them for Zito would be once again letting down the dedicated fans of the Texas Rangers. And though Blalock is highly over rated, trading him to a division rival would be foolish. I'd much rather have him hit balls out of Ameriquest in a Rangers uniform than an Oakland one.

Not so fast.

Teixeira Contract: First baseman Teixeira, a fifth overall pick in the 2001 draft, was convinced to sign with the Rangers by an incredibly lucrative four-year contract. How lucrative? Most sources quote the total value at four-years and $9,500,000, but that ignores the $541,668 in roster bonuses that Teixeira has earned in each of the last three years. Add his All-Star bonus for 2005 and you end up with a net payout over the length of the contract of just over $11,175,000 (and that's not even mentioning the salary guarantees offered had baseball gone into any sort of work stoppage). That is a lot of loot for a a player in his first three years of baseball.

Assuming that the market price of an additional win is worth about $2,140,000, Teixeira's three year performance would have been worth about $38,948,000. Fun fact, but not all that helpful going forward.

You see, that four year deal is up. Teixeira has 3+ years of Major League Service and if the team isn't able to reach an agreement with him he will have his salary determined in an arbitration hearing. With his new Gold Glove award in hand, Teixeira poses a unique arbitration challenge. His platform year was incredible, his career numbers are superior, and he has Scott Boras as an agent.

Albert Pujols was heading into a 3+ arbitration in the 2003/2004 off-season that centered around a mid-point of $8,500,000 ($10,500,000 player filing point, $7,000,000 from the club). He avoided the hearing and accepted an enormous seven-year, $100,000,000 contract that paid him $7,000,000 in the first year. Teixeira is certainly no Pujols, but through their first three years they're close enough to think that Teixeira is going to net big bucks this off-season.

So, from that, he's arbitration eligible THIS SEASON - or he walks.

Just because he is arbitration eligible doesn't mean he can leave. It's simple, offer arbitration and he can't sign with anyone else until he is eligible to file for free agency.

This was the last year that Soriano could not file for free agency. That's also what makes Mench and Wilkerson desirable. They will be under a team's control for 2 more seasons with arbitration. This prevents the bidding war and allows a certain degree of fiscal certainty for their clubs.
