cheaptrick77
Royals move lefty in winter meetings draftDALLAS (AP) -- The Kansas City Royals selected White Sox left-hander Fabio Castro with the first pick in the winter meetings draft on Thursday and then traded him to the Texas Rangers for infielder Esteban German. German hit .313 and scored 103 runs last season with the Triple-A Oklahoma RedHawks, and also played five games with the Rangers. Castro was 5-5 with six saves and a 2.28 ERA with the Single-A Winston-Salem Warthogs. Players selected in the draft must stay on the Major League roster or be offered back to their original team for $25,000. Ten of the 12 players selected in the draft were pitchers. Pittsburgh took right-hander Victor Santos from Kansas City with the fourth pick. He was 4-13 with a 4.57 ERA in 29 games with Milwaukee last season. San Diego chose right-hander Seth Etherton from the Royals was the sixth pick. Etherton, who agreed last month to a Minor League contract with Kansas City, spent most of last season at Triple-A Sacramento and went 1-1 with a 6.62 ERA in three starts with Oakland.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fabio Castro's lifetime statisticsFabio E. lobo4life
This guy was said to be the best player in the Rule V draft. Good deal for the Rangers IMO.
gadwall
Wasn't the white sox closer a rule V draft pick? It certainly seems worth the price.
Blitz
However, being a Rule V Draft Pick means the player stays on the major league roster for one year or is offered back to the original team for $25,000. Esteban German was a top prospect at one time for Oakland.

Please excuse my Rule V ignorance :blushing:, but does that rule apply to the Rangers now ??? They are not the ones who drafted him ..........
cougar30
those numbers arent bad, but what those numbers tell me is he has been a middle reliever in A ball!! if you are a good prospect, you arent a middle reliever in A ball you are a starter or a closer!! period!!! speaking from experience!!!!!!!!! gadwall
The rules do apply to the Rangers, Trick. They can however trade a player during the season to the white sox to allow them to take Casto off the 25 man roster, if the two sides can agree. If not then the Rangers must offer him back for 25k. Castro is throwing lights out in the winter leagues agains major league players (from what I've read). His "stuff" is not in question, just his control.
