Anderson and Diaz agree to minor league deals with Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Left-hander Brian Anderson and Minor League pitcher Joselo Diaz agreed Tuesday to Minor League contracts with the Texas Rangers and were invited to Major League spring training.

Anderson was 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA last year with Kansas City before he went on the disabled list and had elbow ligament replacement surgery on July 21. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the team was pleased with Anderson's rehabilitation from surgery.

"We anticipate a full recovery," Daniels said.

Anderson has an 82-83 record and a 4.74 ERA with California, Cleveland, Arizona and Kansas City in 13 major league seasons.

Diaz, a 25-year-old right-hander, split last season between the Tampa Bay and Cleveland organizations. He was a combined 3-3 with a 4.79 ERA and three saves in 46 appearances at the Double-A and Triple-A levels.

The converted infielder was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers in August 1996. He has also played in the New York Mets organization, but never in the Major Leagues.

Not surprised they signed Brian Anderson. Buck has always wanted him since they got him with the first pick of the expansion draft for the D-backs. They tried to sign before he inked with KC and to trade for him as well. He might be suited for a bullpen role, coming off a major injury.
