Not true ... Papale caught one pass for 49 yards with the 1975 Philadelphia Bell & it was for a touchdown.

He also played with the 1973 Aston Knights of the Seaboard Football League.

I have yet to see the movie, but ..........

Despite the "just an ol' bartender who became an NFLer" selling point and the Madden 2007 graphics for the game sequences, the movie gets some praise for its attention to detail for the Liberty Bell patch on Eagles uniforms and the Red, White and Blue stripes on the 1976 Cowboys' helmets.

I'll catch it when it comes to the video store.

The card above is his rookie card and becket.com did a story on it. It jumped 10,000% according to Beckett Publications. It used to be a .25 cent common, but jumped to as high as $25 on eBay. It has since settled down, and you can get a near mint copy for around $12 - $15. Pretty amazing what a Disney movie can do. If you compared this to Albert Pujols Bowman Chrome Auto RC which books around $2,000; it would jump to $200,000.

It is also his only card (unless you count the 1977 Topps Hispanic variation).

Wow -- I picked up the Papale card for $0.35 EX-MT a few years ago because I enjoyed his interviews on the World Football League installment of the excellent Lost Treasures Of NFL Films series ........... I was not even aware of his "bartender" story at the time.

I should start reading Beckett again ... 'sounds like a great article.
