UIL to vote on girls 5K

I really hope this measure passes; it would be a good first step to get Texas XC up to speed with the rest of the country. Of course we need it to go all the way and include all classifications, but that's probably too much to ask for in one fell swoop.

If a 7th grade girl can run 3200m, a varsity girl should have no problem with 5000m.

Another benefit of changing to 5K would be eliminating the set-up of two different courses for girls and boys races. A couple of times this year there has been confusion at the meets where the different courses do coincide and then branch off in different directions. The spotters weren't paying close attentionand some girls got off course and had to backtrack, costing them several seconds.
