Texas DT Lokey out for season

Texas has depth, but this still hurts any team. Looks like Roy Miller & others will have to pick up the slack...

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Starting defensive tackle Derek Lokey broke his leg in No. 5 Texas' win over Nebraska and will be out indefinitely.

Lokey fractured the fibula in his lower leg in the second quarter Saturday, trainer Kenny Boyd said Monday. Surgery is scheduled for later this week.

Lokey had 24 tackles on the season and also played fullback in short-yardage situations for the Longhorns (7-1, 4-0 Big 12).

"This is an unfortunate setback for Derek and our defense," coach Mack Brown said. "It will be important that someone steps up and fill his void for us to continue to be one of the best defenses in the country."

Thats a shame because Lokey was have an great season, honestly playing better than preseason all american Frank Okam! This just means Roy Miller and the rotation in of Aaron Lewis, who has been playing great lately, will have to step up. Look to see Lewis play a lot of DT and DE against Tech to force a pass rush. Hopefully we'll see Chris Brown get some action, who is a speedy DE from Texarkana. He broke his ankle or leg against Baylor last year and I don't think I've seen him on the field yet this year

Okam and Roy Miller are the starters now. Thomas Marshall and Ben Alexander are going to have to step it up.

Also look for Aaron Lewis to get more playing time rotating between end and tackle. He's been a very good player this season.

Walk on Luke Tiemann (6-2, 219) is going to become the starting fullback. He was a 2 star LB recruit a couple of years ago and a ranked 99th in the Texas 100.
