No Disrespect to the current "most influential players list" on Smoke's HS historical list. But Coach DuBose just hasnt been here nearly long enough to compile an accurate list.

I like this list being an Overton football player, But Aaron Roland would be and OL/DL not an ATH. and I think you may have a few people missing off this list Richard Swainer was one of the best defensive ends to come out of overton, And I belive there may be a few more.thumbsup.gif

Im sure that I missed a few. And yes, I forgot about Swainer. Also, I only remember back to the mid-70's. I know that Doyle Perry, Travis Grindle, Roger Moore, and some others from before my time could be mentioned.

RB was William (not Travis) Grindle ...Roger Moore was All State...you didn't mention a lot of good linemen...Adrian Goodacre, Ray Garrett, Chris Davis (2nd team All State)

Overton had a kid about 1965 named Don King that was one of the fastest players I've ever seen on a football field. I think he won the state 220

at least two times.

Had forgotten Ken Sitton, played in the mid 70's for Marshall, was a head hunter remember him when I was kid at old Maverick Stadium. Before his time, 6'3" 210 and 4.5 guy. Would just lay people out. Played at OU in 78-80 and then drafted by the Colts.

If you watch and of these classic OU/Texas games on longhorn network from those years, watch #18 for OU, Sitton was a killer.

yeah, if you list MP, you have to include Tyrone Brooks, he caused an offense to run to just one side, he was all state DE, he signed with texas out of high school, ended up going to Kilgore(all american there), then on to Texas Tech and started at least a year on the DL for them.

some others from that time:

Chris Turner-LB

Josh Johnson-OT

Clint Stephenson-LB

Anthony Beard-DL

Billy Beard-DL

Alvester Bobby-RB

Cleveland Cannon-RB

?????? Shaw-RB someone help me there-was the TB on the 95 team
