And in 1928, in the first game of a doubleheader in Philly, a record 13 future Hall of Famers take the field. AND this does not include non-playing HOFers Herb Pennock and Stan Coveleski, managers Miller Huggins and Connie Mack, nor umpires Tom Connally and Bill McGowan.

Those who played are Earle Combs, Leo Durocher, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri and Waite Hoyt for New York; Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Mickey Cochrane, Al Simmons, Eddie Collins, Lefty Grove, and Jimmie Foxx for the A's.

Led by Lazzeri's three hits and six RBI's. the Yanks edge the A's, 9-7. Lefty Grove takes defeat but the A's rally in the nitecap, for the split, 5-2, behind rookie Ossie Orwell.

So, a total of 19 Hall of Famer's are involved in this true "Field of Dreams" game.
