*** SIOUX FALLS CANARIES PRESS RELEASE ***

SIOUX FALLS, SD (October 10, 2007) - Sioux Falls Canaries right-handed pitcher Pat Mahomes was one of two American Association players honored by Baseball America when the publication announced its All-Independent Teams on Tuesday. Mahomes, who tied Canaries club records for wins and strikeouts before being picked up at the end of the season by the Toronto Blue Jays organization, was named to the Baseball America All-Independent Second Team.

"Pat did a wonderful job for us this year," said Canaries Manager Steve Shirley. "He was above and beyond what we could have expected both on and off the field. This honor, much like his chance with the Blue Jays organization, is very deserved."

Mahomes was 12-3 with a 3.21 ERA in 19 starts. The win total matched Scott Martin's 2001 win total for the most by a Canaries pitcher in a single season. Mahomes also tied Jamie Ybarra's 1994 record with 109 strikeouts. Mahomes was signed by the Blue Jays on August 24, and reported to the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs. In three starts for the Chiefs, Mahomes was 1-1 with a 7.04 ERA.

The Canaries ace was honored along side 25 other independent baseball players including Kelly Gulledge of the American Association Champion Fort Worth Cats. The Cats catcher was also named to the All-Independent Second Team.

Isn't Mahomes 37 years old now ?

I know he's getting up there, lol......I still remember playing against Whitehouse in high school, (it was Hudson and my alma mater Palestine in a round robin scrimmage with Whitehouse) and he showed up for the game to see our old head coach and hang out and he looked like he was thirty even then, lol
