Registering with AOL/AIM Accounts

We DO NOT ALLOW the use of AOL or AIM e-mail addresses for registration purposes.

We can NO LONGER devote support time to worrying about AOL's hyper aggressive spam/bulk/junk mail filtering policies. If you are trying to register with an AOL or AIM e-mail address you will get an error message informing you that that is not possible. We suggest you use another internet mail provider (yahoo, hotmail, msn, etc...) to register.

Our registration process DEMANDS that a validation e-mail is received and acted on to complete the registration. It has been our experience that NONE of these vital validation messages reach the AOL customers who try to register here.

More details on our AOL policy below...

The reason we have suspended the use of AOL is that AOL/AIM, in an effort to "protect" their users, have inplemented very aggressive spam and junk filters. While this is great for filtering the spam/junk e-mail so prevalent on the internet today it's also prone to filter legitimate e-mails - such as the password messages we send out at registration or when requesting a new password.

If you managed to sneak in an AOL/AIM account at some point when we allowed them you will not be eligible for support from our staff. The reason for the lack of support is due to the fact that our replies/lost password messages may or may not be delivered to these accounts - this makes for a frustrating exchange of messages with no satisfactory results in most cases.

We have make several attempts to contact AOL to work this out but they have yet to respond to our support reqests. If you, as an AOL user, would care to ask them about this we would appreciate any information you are able to pry out of them regarding their filtering system.

AOL/AIM provides easy access to the internet and for that reason have become very popular with new PC owners - the truth is, however, that AOL/AIM is one of the worst choices you can make for internet access.

Those of you, who use AOL/AIM e-mail addresses, who wish to register on the Smoakhouse Forums will have to find/sign up and use another e-mail service. A few that we suggest are gmail, netscape or msn. But even with these services you may have to check your spam/junk folders for your smoaky.com password.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
