Socialized medicine.

I apologize for being late to the debate. Thought I would give it some time. Wish Bo had some friends.

Tell me about the "good" of socialized medicine. Have you heard of the Mayo Clinic? You know who makes up the largest portion of the cliental? Canadians. Why? Because they can't get medical treatment on a timely basis in Canada. Why? Canada has a socializd medical system. In the US if you need a heart bypass surgury, you are rolled into a hospital the next day and your chest is cracked open and the procedure is done. In Canada you are evaluated as to need and put on a waiting list like cattle. If you are lucky, your heart is not damaged by an attack prior to your surgery. If you have a heart attack in the interim, Good News, they move you up the priority list.

Bo - socialized medicine sounds good until you research the issue.

US is again looking at committing troups in Liberia. Bo, what should we do:

a) do nothing

B) send troops after the President leaves

C) Send troops now

Please help GWB with you opinion. No weapons of Mass Destruction. The neighboring African nations are requesting our help. What should we do?

Yes it would be stupid of us not to exploit Iraqi resources. Proceeds from the sale of Iraqi oil should help defray the cost of the war, and give us leverage for furthering the war on terrorism with regard to Saudi Arabia.

I've never understood how people can expect the price of a finite resource to go down.

:freak3:

it's hard to debate somebody on a subject as touchy as war when they've never been in one, or even had the ,shall we say inestinal fortitude, to even stand up and be counted with the ones he's so quick to crititize.

its easy to sit on a computer keyboard or in front of a t.v. or newpaper and read a certian point of view and go "yeah! i agree with that. thats great". it's not so easy to go down to a recruiting station and raise your right hand and take an oath to serve your country and put your butt on the line so that others can have the same freedom of speach that your enjoying now.

i have met a few people in my time who actualy served in the military and were staunchly anti-war and very liberal. i may not have agreed with them but at least we could look each other in the eyes and respect each others opinions. which i did and still do.

it may not be conservative but i believe we should help seniors with the cost of drugs. i believe what bush is doing in africa with AIDs is the right thing to do. i dont believe we should put animals to sleep just because somebody dropped them off at the shelter, if we can spend a few bucks and try and find them owners.

but i also believe that if somebody is going to sit on a keyboard and crititize our men and women in harms way in a forgien country and spew this liberal bilge that they're on the wrong side and are basicly ruining the world, i think that person should MAN UP and go join and walk a few miles, or a few thousand miles as the case may be, in thier combat boots before he starts making those kind of attacts on them.

thats not liberal or conservative, thats just cowardice. period!

BoBell, remember when you said this

Did you forget about 5 years ago back in 1998, when Slick Willy was the one who was bombing Iraq. What were his reasons? I believe they were that Iraq has the capabilities of Nuclear and Biochemical weapons. Wait, wouldnt that be the same reason Bush went to war.

So why weren't we on the wrong side then?

I'd like for it to be Nixon-McGovernesque. Maybe then Bush would resign. The Dems are still in Clinton's shadow. And Bush isn't as stupid as some think...anybody notice how quick his approval rating shot up after 9/11? And again with the war. Gives all you flag waiving republicans something to be proud of. And if somebody doesn't particularly agree w/ him, THEY AREN'T A PATRIOT! Why would we ever want somebody that may disagree with the Almighty GWB running our country. Blasphemy, I tells ya.

i've heard hilary whining just like you bo. she made that same statement in front of a bunch of feminist last year. that she was tired of being told that if you dissagree with this president that your un-patriotic.

whoever said that? i never said you were in patriotic because you dissagree with bush. i wouldnt ever dream of casting doubt on your patriotism or love for this country. sounds like you get backed into a corner when facts start proving you wrong and you pull the typical liberal matra......waaaaa, they're picking on me..NOT FAIR" and we all know that a liberals view of "fair" is everybody agreeing with THIER point of view.

i would never question your patriotism bo. just your guts. theres a lot of 18-25 year old kids, young men, walking the streets of bagdad and kabul right now putting their beliefs on the line and showing the world where they stand.

you can't do that from a keyboard. if you really believe america is such a horrible country, and that our military is such vehical for evil as you and all you liberals seem to think then why dont you do something about it. join the military. go in and fix it from the inside out. or being the typical liberal you think that you can save the word, then join the peace corps. you can work for free and go to the bowels of africa or somewhere and feed starving kids for a year. since liberals always say that money is evil, then i'm sure the peace corps would be perfect for you. that way you could save the world and not have to be bothered with money.

but please don't sit at a keyboard and say that young men and women fighting for you and this country and freedom, putting their butts on the line everyday, are on the wrong side when you don't have the ability to go out there and make a differnce yourself.

Scores? Don't think so...our precision weapons DRASTICALLY minimized the amount of civilian casualties! Give us some numbers...not rhetoric. How many Iraqi civilians died in the last 6 months at the hands of the US Military?

My lack of enthusiasm for the army began when I was little. My dad, being a Vietnam vet, made sure to tell me how horrible it was and that if I could avoid it any cost, not to join the military, so I'm inclined to listen to him. That, and the fact that I'm just 17 are the reasons I have yet to join the army. My career aspirations are to be involved in sports writing, though that may take some time to really make a splash in after college.

Bo...im still waiting on one good liberal idea....lol

I dont think people who disagree with the President are unpatriotic. I think people who do so on foreign soil to foreigners are. I think people who disagree with Bush are mainly disagreeing with the fact that he isnt the person they voted for. Nothing wrong with that. Here is a good version of unpatriotic. Dodge the draft, run for president, molest and rape women working under you, and bomb countries after you have been found out.

BoBell,

The reason I ask the question on your career aspirations is the following. I don't know if at your school you have foreign exchange students from Europe. I think we can agree most European nations are more socialist than the United States (although the liberals are moving us toward the European socialist models). In many of the European countries the young people are administered tests to determine their aptitudes for careers. If you wish to be a writer and you the test says you have no aptitude for writing, the society will not spend any of its resources to make you a writer a university. Instead the aptitude test may say you should be a mechanic. Society insteads sends you to a trade school to learn your trade.

The history of Europe was of Kings and lords that told the citizens what to do when (including when to fight their enemies). America was founded by independent, self sufficient peoples that made their own life. As such early in our history developed the free market concept we society votes monetarily what they want.

The biggest differences between liberals and conservatives in America - liberals like to impose their belief systems on others (society is the most important) and conservatives belief a free economy will properly allocate the resources (the individual is the most important).

Good luck as a sports writer. At least in America, if that is what you chose to do, you can!
