70 Years Ago Today The Unbreakable Record Established

Recommended Posts

Exactly 70 years ago today baseball witnessed a performance that will probably never be beaten let alone be tied.

Lefty Johnny Vander Meer no-hit the Brooklyn Dodgers for his second consecutive no-hitter. His first no-no was on June 11th. His second no-no was the first ever game played at night under the lights in Brooklyn.

Vander Meer led the majors with a total of 7.07 hits per game during the '38 season.

70 years ... that's a lot of baseball. Yeah, I'd say that this one is unbreakable .... 3 consecutive no-hitters? No way!!!!!

The odds are that someone will one day tie it? I'd guess ... "slim and none".

I wonder what hits/game average the top pitchers have achieved since 2000?
