BRAD
when ball is kicked out of bounds on kickoff thought ball was to be spotted on 35 but watching SHS/Central Ark. and ball went out of bounds on 25 and spotted on 40, have seen it spotted at 30 also. why does this rule vary? Immortal13
Not 100% sure, but I think it also has to do with where the ball went out of bounds. For instance, if it went out of bounds at the 38, and they spotted at the 35 that would actually punish the receiving team.
BRAD
Because in NCAA it's at the 35. DieHardCubFan
Here it is from the 2008 NCAA Rulebook: Approved Ruling 6-2-1 I. A kickoff from Team A’s 30-yard line goes out of bounds untouched by Team B. RULING: Team B has three options. It may accept a five-yard penalty from the previous spot with Team A kicking from the 25-yard line, or put the ball in play at Team B’s 40-yard line at the inbounds spot, or put the ball in play at the inbounds spot after a five-yard penalty from the spot where the ball went out of bounds.
