In this article, Obahama's person says we need to be like world heavy weights,Finland and Singapore, and to throw more money at kids in poverty. No mention of what they do with "everybody" in those schoolslink

Are you advocating this approach, or slamming it?

If you know anything about education, you know that we are failing right here at the local level due to our poorest kids who have to receive intense intervention and a high level of direct instruction from the teacher in elementary school. With only one teacher in a classroom of 20, if 5-6 receive a big chunk of that teacher's time, its really no surprise that our average kids aren't performing well on big time tests used to compare us to the rest of the world.

We need more reading specialist and intervention level educators to work with these kids so that the classroom teachers can challenge and work on higher level activities with kids who are on level. The only way for this to happen is with $$$. Our schools are already stretched very thin--and in East Texas, they do a tremendous amount with small budgets all across the region. But if we are going to compete on a global level, less money and higher accountability standards isn't the solution.

Why do kids need this kind of intervention? Whose fault is it? Do these other countries educate all? Are we really that far behind? If so, why would the majority of the world want to live here?

they are more concerned with being an OG homey thanb learning how to read.

You aren't supposed to ask these questions! Just bend over and give us some more money! Utopia is just a fortune away.

I'll go with spending more money on education when caning becomes the practice for miscreants in American school systems, as it is in Singapore.

Okay, so let me see if I get this right. Instead of going at it the right way, i.e., parents ACTUALLY do their job as parents and make sure the kids get their homework done and have ALL good teachers, they're going from the other way... poor them, poor them... let's help them... the heck with everybody else... Well, the poor them can learn to read like the rest of the them, and stay in school and freaking study.

And one thing that boggles my mind is... if you've got a bad teacher - get rid of 'em! Period! I don't give a rats patooty how much time they've got vested or what...if they're not doing their job, and the kids aren't learning, FOR WHATEVER REASON, get 'em out!

Now, for the young'uns that can't seem to get it, there's always tutoring... always has been. It's free, more times than not, and but I forgot...that would require a little extra time being spent by the student, or a parent dropping a kid off 30 minutes early to school... DUH!

So once again, we're bailing out the ones who are too freaking lazy, whether it be them or their parents (one in the same), and not offering anything extra to the ones who are actually doing what they're supposed to be doing...studying and busting their butt to make good grades.

Simply mind boggling!!!!! But then look what the Big 3, Wall Street, and the politicians are teaching 'em!

That is truth. There is no doubt who taught my three to read, and they don't work for any school system.

Teachers complain about the impossibility of getting parents involved. I don't think it's impossible. I think parent's disinvolvement is made possible by requiring public schools to behave like substitute parents. And bad ones at that.

Funny... I've been told once or twice that I might be a "little too involved"... imagine that! Don't know what the heck they were talking about.... LOL!

Needless to say, when I e-mail a teacher, and ask for son's grades, and to keep me abreast, I'd best get a response. If I don't... well.... not to mention if I'm on the young'uns hindends, when I say I want a report every Friday by each teacher, I'm not messing around... I WANT THE INFO! Just in case I need to beat 'em all weekend or ground 'em or pick weeds out in the pasture!!!! LOL!

Truthfully, I think our politicians have left their common sense at the door. Some things are so blasted simple, it's not even funny, but nooooo, they've got to make the problem more difficult - no wonder there's so many blasted STUPID people in this world!

I've said this time and time again. Parents need to be involved, with their children's education. I realize that many are not. Unlike Parentofredheads, most parent's aren't as involved. They do expect the school system to teach and raise their children. I think the school system and P.T.A. should be involved, because many parents are afraid to discipline their children. The School system today, is totally different than what I grew up with.

I don't think the "Robin Hood" plan worked in Texas, because the money was misspent. Wilmer-Hutchins in south Dallas is the perfect example, even with government oversight. It boils down to parents and teachers working with each other. We've become an electronic age, when reading books will give one just as much knowledge. Computers give us information at our fingertips, but do people really understand what they read on the internet. Especially when much of it is subject to conjecture ?

People today are being told what they want to hear with their computers. Are they truly being informed ? Children are being turned into sheeple, by electronics. There isn't any need for hard copies for information.

What Robin Hood did was further increase the growing disparency from the well to do schools to the poor schools.

Was watching Neal Cavuto last night, and he brought up entertainers that he'd interviewed this past year, especially during the election.

Of all the people he interviewed... and I'm getting to my point... he came to Jon Voight. Jon said that a lot of the problem is, the NOW ADULTS, who are shaping the world grew up in the '60s, and they're still living the '60s, like Ayers. That unfortunately for all, THOSE ADULTS are now the ones teaching our children, are our politicians, and running everything, from Wall Street to the public school. And lucky us, now we'll have one in the White House! And he compared many socialist and communist dictators always spouting that America will destroy itself from within...it's getting there, if not already there.

Jon's main focus was, the "children" of the '60s pushed the government to get out of VietNam, thinking that if you'll just leave them alone, the two sides will come together in harmony (rolling eyes here), and then after leaving, of course, they saw over 2 million people being exterminated. Some saw, as Jon did, which he admitted he was "one" of those liberals and changed from being a liberal Democrat to a Republican.

In another interview Cavuto did with George Foreman, Neal asked him about his wilder days versus the man he is today. Foreman noted that when he began having a family, his values and political beliefs changed.

A lot of parents never get the, when you decide to have a child, you have just taken on the biggest and most important job in your life - and some never get it! What concerns me more in these days, is you see how some of these kids are raised, how poor they do in school, and in life, in general... how will they raise their kids, and by the time we're in our 70s and 80s, they'll be the ones running the country, and as selfish as these little heathens are, do ya think they'll care?

Okay... the fact that he murdered then, in some cases, ate portions of those he murdered clearly indicates that he wasn't raised to value the sanctity of life.

It does not disprove that his parents were great people, it only proved that he was insane. prove his parents were evil and that they raised him to be evil.

In spite of what you think, great parents don't fail to teach their children to value the sanctity of life. In fact, only complete mooncalf would believe great parents raise their children to be cannibals.

has it ever doon on you that maybe his parents had nothing to do with it. maybe just maybe his brain was messed up. maybe it was just in his makeup. i am sure your parents did not raise you to be an :censored: but here you are. parents are not always to blame for what the kiddies do. you can't blame the mommies and daddies for how the world had turned out sorry.

Nothing has ever "doon"ed on me. Unlike you, great parents raise their children to value the sanctity of life.

BTW... nice language for a preacher's daughter. Should I hold that against him?

you have no argument... that much is apparent by the way you keep repeating yourself. I will state this one more time... you can not blame the way the world has turned out on parents nor can you blame it on the period in which some one grew up. sorry.
