delap
My original list: For College Station: 1. Freebirds (There are several throughout the state) 2. Layne\'s (Local place that serves ONLY chicken strips and fries; either as a sandwich or basket) 3. The Kettle (Great home-style cooked food!--Closest I\'ve found to a \"diner\" down here) 4. Potato Shack (They put the \"loaded\" in a \"Loaded Baked Potato\") 5. The Dixie Chicken or just \"The Chicken\"--(Located on NorthGate  ) (There\'s a steak joint just down the road, [off Hwy 21 right before you get to Hwy 6 coming into B/CS] called \"Sodalaks\", have yet to eat there but I\'ve been told it\'s good!!!) For Tyler: 1. Taqueria El Lugar -( the Orginal one off Gentry by the Super 1 Foods) (I know the owner and family; good folks!) 2. Weinerland (hotdog joint accross from TJC off Fifth St.) 3. Dwayne\'s Country Cafe (Fifth St.) 4. Little Italy (Just \"discovered\" this last time I was in town (April 2009)....always seemed kinda shady, but the food was EXCELLENT!!) 5. Texas Roadhouse August 2009 Update: Dwayne\'s Country Cafe\' is closed. As far as other \"favorite restaurants\" go: 24th St. Cafe\'- [Paris,TX] is a good place to eat. Fazoli\'s The Country Tavern [Kilgore] And these as well (Quoted from Best place to get a bite to eat before the game thread): 1. East Texas Burger Co. [Mineola] 2. Dairy Palace [Canton, TX]--it\'s a heart attack waiting to happen but the burgers are out of this world!! 3. The Back Porch [Kilgore]

wtlobos
Whataburger is too dang expensive for fast food. You should not disrespect Whataburger's good name like that. It might seem expensive when you see the prices, but when you bite into that Whataburger and dip those fries into that Fancy Ketchup it's more than worth the price....now if you excuse me, I must find the nearest Whataburger. camuchs
^ Neely’s Brown Pig – Marshall - I’ve been going there all my life and have only had The Brown Pig sandwich – fries –tea – choc pie. I always pick up a few quarts of Brown Pig Sauce when I am up that way. The sandwiches are small and I usually eat 3! The prices seemed to be a lot higher the last time I was there. Does anyone remember Ward’s in Marshall or the Gables? Ward’s was next to a tire place on 80 where Walgreens is now. I was just a little kid but I remember getting filled up on captain’s crackers and the house dressing that was a pinkish color before I ever got my food. The Gables had a similar dressing. When I was a kid we would stop at one of those diner’s when we would be traveling between Lake ‘O the Pines and Nacogdoches. The food may not have been that good - but I thought it was when I was a kid - at least the crackers and dressing was!.

85lobo
What about Bonanza's in Longview? it wasnt a trip to town with my grandpa unless we stopped there for a steak. Spent many, many nights at Bonaza with my dad and family when I was growing up. Sirloin Stockade too. Another place in Longview was Shakey's Pizza. Went there after almost every baseball game me and my brother ever played in.

chase.colston
I'd like to update my list. I'll even break it down by genre. All in Tyler: MEXICAN Taqueria El Lugar Mercados ITALIAN Bruno's Olive Garden ASIAN Shogun Peking AMERICAN/BBQ Texas Roadhouse Rick's On The Square Rudy's Jucy's SANDWICHES Jersey Mike's Schlotzky's In the Asian department, Tyler will practically be dead to me until Pei Wei comes to town. Julian's doesn't nearly measure up for the price.
