QUOTE (Soze @ Nov 3 2009, 07:03 PM) *
Longview will move back to 5a eventually. Most likely not in the next realignment, given the recent figures, but before too long it will. I think Hallsville will end up 5a in the next 10 years. I worry that when Longview gets back to 5a that they will have a tough year for the first year. Recent teams that have moved down a classification then back up have not faired so well. Tatum in particular. They get lax at the lower level and are no longer prepaired for the challenge of playing at the higher level. But they usually settle back down and get back to business. Now back to this year! and this topic! My preference is for Longview to play Kilgore. I don't care where the game is played. It's what I had hoped for when I heard Longview had dropped classifications and couldn't believe that they weren't put in the same district despite being in the same county. Seems to me it's a rivalry-in-waiting. Jacksonville or Whitehouse I don't get excited about. Not because I think Longview will destroy them it just doesn't bring the emotion that a Kilgore game would. I hope in realignment that Kilgore, Longview, Marshall and John Tyler are placed in the same district. That would be a year to remember. But I digress, Kilgore is just the type of team that could beat a team like Longview. The running game they bring to the table couldn't be matched by anyone Longview has played thus far and would make for an intriguing challenge for the Lobos and really give a proper indicator on where Kilgore will be next year.

longview will steamroll kilgore. longview will pound their own running game right into kilgore.kilgores running game will get totally shut down. i really believe it will be 45-0. something in that range.

Come on...follow me here. Yep; Gilmer a little ole 3A school whipped the 4A playoff bound Kilgore Dogs 70-27. You may want to reconsider having to play Longview. That's my thinking and how it fits into a 4A football thread.

Gilmer a little ole 3A school? RiiiiIiight.

Jville is not the same team you played last year. No saying at all that they could best longview but it will not be the same type game as before. Longview will have to work a little harder this time.

A little harder but not much harder.

How early on do you think?

2002 Longview, Lufkin, and Tyler Lee all made the State Quarterfinals from the same district..with Lp and Lee in the State Semis. That early?
2003 Lufkin Longview and Lee were all ranked in the top 5 of the State at some point in time..granted everything fell apart for Lp and Longview in the playoffs but that early?
2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 Longview won district every single year. 2006 I thought we would lose a game for sure in district. But they somehow found a new way every single game. Never seen a team come back in district so many times.

2000 and 2001 I agree. But with King at the helm since 04, I think we could've taken anyone in 4A.

Sorry to have taken so logn to respond, but here goes my reasoning.

Let us say Longview dropped in 2002. The Texas High team that won it in 02 was very very good, Texas High was just as good again in 03 but had some problems that prevented em from getting the ring. Kilgore in 03 was also very good going 4 rounds deep that year. In 2004, Jacksonville went 3 rounds deep, Marshall loses by 2 in the state game, and Kilgore wins it all. The 4th best team that year was Hallsville who had been state ranked. Texas High and Corsicana also had very succesful teams in 04. 2005 Marshall and Kilgore were both again very good, Texas High had the unfortunate task of playing HP in the first round that year losing in a tough close game tht probably had the two best teams in 4a playing. That years HP team with the way they played aginst Marshall I'd take against anyone. 2005 was really the last year the area had true state powers until last years teams like SS and Longview.

Longview every year would of been favored against almost all of those teams, the point is though that the area was stronger from 2001-2005 then it is right now. Right now there is one really good team and then several teams I feel that are pretty mediocre. Look at all the schools in the area, almost all of them have seen better days during that time period, except for SS.

And as far as Jacksonville being a boring game, I have a feeling it be a lot different then last years game. Jacksonville has been very up and down, but on their up night they are pretty good. In fact I think people are calling our future playoff game against Texas High a toss up. You guys must of played yalls worst game of the year vs. Texas High to only win by 3 right?

02 I think we could have taken LV. 05 a 40-50% shot. 03 a fighting chance. Other than that I won't go there.
I wish we could have been in this district in those years. We would have had some epic games and I think Texas High & Longview would be intense rivals.

I won't answer for any other teams.

I dont' think Longview will be in 5a next year but, if so will fight hard in every game as normal. I'd like for JT to come down as well, there enrollment suggest they will have too. What's the big deal just because the city is big does'nt have anything to do with the school enrollment. Example: Waco high they went down years ago. Same reason we did and look what's happening Midway's on the map now. I hadn't heard of them to last year. Carter dropped down with us. An Denton Ryan's district's split with the emergence of Guyer. People are moving out of the cities enrollments falling and the resut is hopefully LV & KILGORE. If the teams in 14a and the others in 13a had to travel to Dallas as much as we have the past few years for district games they would want the same thing. And each district game means more playing of teams from our area. I would love to see the old 12 5a LV, T-Lee, JT, Lufkin, Nac, Marshall. East Texas in my opinon the best football in the state. On any given night any team can beat the other.

I think JT and Longview will both be down. Hopefully what that may do is prevent schools like Jacksonville, Sulphur Springs and Kilgore from being possible division 1 teams.

Now that, I can agree with 100%. I definitely think there would be some great match ups with Longview against the other ET teams during those years (I still content that 2005 was the best team we had in all those years despite what the playoff results say).

That was during Longview's "we have talent so we don't have to come for the entire game" trip that they had at the start of the season. Texas High's game plan coming back from halftime was to have long long long drives and wear our defense down. They did just that.

Problem was Longview match it. There were 4 possessions combined in the 2nd half, if that tells you how long the drives were.

While I don't think Longview will be as talented at every position like they have been this season, I don't think "being down" has been in our vocabulary since John King got here. I'll still expect the Lobos to put up at least 8 wins next season (regular season wise).

I have a hard time thinking that. Longview has always (well since the Collins era got here) tried to schedule the toughest opponents possible in non-district and with these long playoff runs in 4A, it only adds to the toughness that the Lobos have had to play since the move down to 4A.

I've said it numerous times before and I'll say it again...I don't think Longview played any tougher a district schedule in their last 4 years of 5A than they have so far in 4A. The only way it would be tougher is because of the 2 hour travel.

But that discussion is for another day. wink.gif

Just ready for next week to get here already.

I considered the load of 5a opponents that longview has scheduled in non-district but so far. But we are talking atleast 2 years in advance, that is 4 years in 4a atleast before returning to 5a, that can change a coaching staff mentally and the players will have years of junior high, 9th grade and jv games against less talented teams to lull them into sleep.... just a thought though... it's Longview so they'll probably win state the first year back in 5a lol

The Lobo's really don't need any more advantages but it doesn't hurt that you guys get to rest up a week and your coaches get to split up and go scout the heck out of the probable playoff teams. ... coolio.gif

Well our players have had a pretty tough schedule compared to some. Getting the JV players acclimated to the varsity level is very important. They never know when there going to be called on. The great thing is each one of our sub varsity teams showed great promise for upcoming years. One player that really stepped up last season and who is really having a breakout season is LaDarrin Robertson.

Longview has numbers, talent and tradition. Go Longview! With all that said, its no surprise that ya'll are good. But we know ya'll have had to work extra hard since moving down. It's hard to find good athletes at your school I know. J/K..... As long as there is a Big School Small school situation it doesn't matter for the small school teams, just as long as they take care of business and play a decent game against L'view or JT(if they bump down).... they can run the table just like SS did last year. I don't think any team just feels defeated before the game starts. I figure most want to take down the giants. That is apart of Friday night football. Marshall nearly did this year. Marshall has quite a few kids too but luckily T'high is in that district, so that if things playout like we all figure they will. The numbers wont impact 13-4a small schools just 14-4a's. That is why JT should come to 14-4a. So we could see a potential JT/ Longview matchup. I'm rambling i need to quit. Im looking forward to next year to see how things play out. This year I hope W'house can win this Friday and play Longview just for the opportunity. It would be nice to try and get some revenge on T'high's spanking of us last year though. But we will take whoever just as long as we make it.

With all due respect to SS, they looked scared as they made their way to their tunnel right before kickoff. I think they lost the game mentally before the ball was ever kicked off. JMO.
