Tried the new Salsarita in Tyler. Overpriced Taco Bell, that sells alcohol. Not spicy, bland mexican food. We have marked it off the list.

My son ate at the new Carl's Jr. place here in Longview. Told me not to bother. Wasn't very good at all apparetly. He ranked McDonalds over them, now that is not a vote of confidence for Carl's Jr.

There's one at the truckstop in Van on I20. Its overpriced Mickey D's at best.

Actually, the one in Van is better than the one in Longview. I would say there food is better than average for fast food, it's the service that makes it bad. The one in Longview, they won't listen to your order, they ask you fifty questions before you finish, then they say, " Is your order correct on the screen?" I guess it is, but I don't know what your stupid little abbreviations mean, so it could also be wrong, I don't know. What ever happened to being polite to people? It's not that hard to be polite, even if your faking it, a complete stranger you'll probably never see again won't know...*sigh*

This is why I try to eat at the house as much as possible.

I was going to say the menu changed from 35+ years ago. Now days the chile rellenos is the only thing I would touch. For what ever reason the rellenos "are still good". blush.gif

I refuse to stop at any taqueria anymore. Anyone can flavor some pork, chicken, or beef add a bit of cilantro and onions to taco, and say it's one. Maybe I like my food spicy, but add some green or red chili's to it, and it could be good. Otherwise it tastes like something I'd give my dog.

El Chico's
Pancho's

I'm not a fan of Joe's Crab Shack either.

However, if and when I see a Pancho's or El Chico's I will gladly dine at either of those locations. I've been blessed to eat at Pancho's here in Houston, but the only one I will eat at is the one off of Tidwell. They conform more to the old menu that I grew up on. The closest El Chico I know of to Houston is in Huntsville. I remember when there were two El Chico's in Longview and one in Tyler. All that's left now is the one in Marshall.

I have eaten at the El Chico in Marshall about a dozen times over the past 15-20 years ... very few times by choice. I would just as soon go down to Walmart and get a Mexican tv dinner and take it home and heat it up. I seem to remember an El Chico in Nacogdoches, I think, not sure if it's still there. A lot of people don't like them, but the Jalapeno Tree in Marshall is pretty good.
