Queen City for yheir third straight State Championship.
Redwater came storming back to place second after showing 7th in the prelims.
New Boston narrowly missed the finals, soming in Eighth in the prelims.

Similar to last year's 3A results, where 3 bands from this region advanced from Area to State, all from the same district. 153A
( N.Lamar, Atlanta, and Pleasant Grove )

In 1A, Clarksville came in second in the prelims, but ended up Fourth in the Finals.

Redwater actually got more 1st place votes but one judge had them much lower and it cost them the state championship. Congratulations to Queen City on another state championship.

While it is true that Redwater received more first place votes for music, it was their marching scores that bumped them down to second place.

The first three judges (Drinkwater, Madden, Willliams) i believe were the music judges and Robinson, Troyka were the marching judges for finals.

Place Band Drinkwater Madden Williams Robinson Troyka Composite
1 Queen City HS, Queen City 1 2 2 2 2 9
2 Redwater H S, Redwater 2 1 1 5 3 12
3 Yoe HS, Cameron 3 3 3 7 4 20
4 White Oak HS, White Oak 4 6 7 3 1 21
5 Clifton HS, Clifton 5 5 5 1 7 23
6 Forsan HS, Forsan 6 4 6 4 5 25
7 Melissa H S, Melissa 7 7 4 6 6 30

Shelbyville got a score like New Boston in the prelims. A lot of goods rankings then -blam- a 16 that keeps em out of finals. I don't like the discrepancy between the 16 from one music judge to the other two judges 4's. I wish there was an easy way to fix it, like whenever the essays of the ACT and SAT are graded, some UIL academic events, or maybe even the honor band method, but it would be too time consuming. The scoring sheets don't allow for it, anyway.

I was at the Area Marching Contest and I was definately more impressed by Redwater than Queen City at that contest. I cannot speak for the State Contest though.
