I thought it would be better to just start a page for the entire class as they commit, rather than making a new page every time a player commits.

That said,

Kyle Hicks became the 5th committment of the 2013 Texas class today!

I don't really understand the pickup of Hicks though. Unless he's used in special teams and out of the slot on offense, this may have been a waste of a scholarship. Just my opinion.

Do get caught up in stars. Star rankings are fun to throw around when discussing recruiting, but really it doesn't mean a whole lot. Every year there are players with highly impressive offer list that are 3 star prospects, while some 4 star prospects are nothing more than depth chart builders. Recruiin rankings really can't be evaluated correctly because the people who make them get paid by the fan bases who subscribe.... Hicks is a great player and will
Do well at Texas. That's like the DB tamu got yesterday. He is a 3 star prospect, but holds offers from bama lsu OSU tamu tech and Many others. Hicks is the same way. Nice offer list and a great film but or whatever reason is over looked.

Don't forget your contractions, WETSU - helped you out there.

And to the Horn fans: HOW MANY STARS did Garrett Gilbert have? Or Stephen Good?

Like WETSU said, it's fun to toss star rankings about, just don't put too much store in them...

I'm not sure where the assumptions with the stars came up, but my reasoning for saying that the Hicks committment may have been a waste of a scholarship had nothing to do with how many stars he has. The reason I made that comment is because....where is he going to play? The depth at the RB position is already so deep that some of the current RB's already get very few snaps. And now with JG coming in, it's just going to be worse.

He's very similar to the RB A&M just landed. Speedster than can be used on special teams. It's being reported that Jefferson (A&M commit) runs a 4.36 forty. I know those times are lied about pretty much every time, but speed like that is always good. I think Hicks is pretty quick as well.

I'm really not trying to bash so please dont take this the wrong way, but Brown and Burgeon(sp?) we're both banged up most of the year. Gray is an amazing back, but has had two shoulder surgeries already. I think he is fine but you never know... The fact is, you don't want to just assume the running game will have more than enough with those three because injuries can pile up fast at the rb position. Especially for guys who are predominantly between the tackles type backs like the ones on the Texas roster. Hicks might be one of the top 3 backs in the state IMO. You need at least 1 RB in every class so why not take him? Depth certainly doesn't hurt.

I agree plus when the others graduate, you have an experienced back.

I can see why that would all make sense. I guess if nothing else, he would be great as a return specialist if he has the type of speed a couple of others have mentioned.

Brown and Bergeron will both be Juniors by the time Hicks makes it to campus and Gray has made it known that he doesn't want to be the lone back in order to preserve his health. I think its a great pick up for the Horns. Last year's injury bug at RB proved that you better have more than a couple of quality backs ready to go.

Texas picks up a verbal from Ricky Seals-Jones today. Another nice pick-up for the offense. With his size, I'm beginning to think we could put together a pretty good basketball "B" team with these guys.
