A couple of nuggets---Curtis Brown on defense?

Secondly, no LaMichael James from Liberty-Eylau---along with a few others...not a big group from East Texas.

That is sad............no Lennon Creer, the kid was accepted into the All-American Bowl....yet he doesnt make the AP All-State team, interesting I must say. Tatum wins state in back to back years.......last years Tatum team had 4 or 5 All-Staters.........this year none????? You have got to be kidding me. Do they not even look at the lower classes or something???

The AP made mistakes, but keep in mind only the regular season counts. Take L-E's LaMichael James as an example. He missed 2-3 games during regular season with injury. He wasn't even nominated for the AP Team, although a case could be made. Now, the Texas Sports Writers Association Teams come out in January and they take playoff games into account. James had five outstanding playoff games. If he's not on one of their teams, something is wrong. In fact. 3 or 4 L-E players should make TSWA teams. Two glaring errors by the AP. Gilmer's Curtis Brown is on first team defensively and he only played a few plays defensively all year. He would have been a good nominee on offense. Second, counting honorable mentions Tatum had 10 players represented. That's ridiculous. There's not a 5A team in the state with that many all-state quality players in my opinion. There is no perfect way of picking teams. When the TSWA teams come out there will be more controversy. Still, with all that said the kids are getting some recognition and that's what counts. If some stud going to Texas gets left off, it's unfortunate, but he's still going to Texas.

I'm a bit surprised about Tatum myself since we (AP regional coordinators) were asked specifically to weed out multiple nominations for a single team (from whatever paper nominated them) and to only forward (to the AP) those that really belonged there. I only did nominations for Region II so it wasn't us. But whoever did must be a real Tatum fan, lol.

So the fact Kinne put up playstation like numbers at Canton and led them to two play-offs in three years means nothing? I would say Kinne made Gilmer look good and vice versa.

Wow, that just shows you how talented Gilmer was, yet they got beat in the first round. I think victim was also a victim of their own very weak district. L-E played some real tough 4A teams in non-district which helped prepare them, and remember Atlanta won that district.
