tdsteele
LE's James should have made it. Curtis Brown played maybe 5 plays on D all year but I sure could have seen him get picked at WR anyway. Kinne is good. He would have made the worst team look good. RETIREDFAN1
Feel free to express opinions about the all-state team, especially for someone who didn't make it---but refrain from making negative comments about those who did.
68Hornet
The AP made mistakes, but keep in mind only the regular season counts. Take L-E's LaMichael James as an example. He missed 2-3 games during regular season with injury. He wasn't even nominated for the AP Team, although a case could be made. Now, the Texas Sports Writers Association Teams come out in January and they take playoff games into account. James had five outstanding playoff games. If he's not on one of their teams, something is wrong. In fact. 3 or 4 L-E players should make TSWA teams. Two glaring errors by the AP. Gilmer's Curtis Brown is on first team defensively and he only played a few plays defensively all year. He would have been a good nominee on offense. Second, counting honorable mentions Tatum had 10 players represented. That's ridiculous. There's not a 5A team in the state with that many all-state quality players in my opinion. There is no perfect way of picking teams. When the TSWA teams come out there will be more controversy. Still, with all that said the kids are getting some recognition and that's what counts. If some stud going to Texas gets left off, it's unfortunate, but he's still going to Texas.
MNMLady
I'm a bit surprised about Tatum myself since we (AP regional coordinators) were asked specifically to weed out multiple nominations for a single team (from whatever paper nominated them) and to only forward (to the AP) those that really belonged there. I only did nominations for Region II so it wasn't us. But whoever did must be a real Tatum fan, lol.

orange80
Wow, that just shows you how talented Gilmer was, yet they got beat in the first round. I think victim was also a victim of their own very weak district. L-E played some real tough 4A teams in non-district which helped prepare them, and remember Atlanta won that district. Does anyone know how many punts he had during the season? That is a outstanding average especially if he had a good total number of punts (20 +).
