Thank God for the postseason in October (and, for this year like 2001, in November), but I hate it when the regular season ends, which happens in less than a week now. For me, it's like losing a major part of my soul for five months. Baseball, unlike any other sport, just gets inside of you, and it never, ever lets go. It always amazes me when you look at MLB ballplayers this time of the year. Look at the faces of the ballplayers on the eliminated teams--they show pure physical exhaustion. Those guys are worn out from the grind of the season! But compare them with the faces of the ballplayers on the contending and soon-to-be playoff teams--they're energized and fresh, ready for the playoff run. It's always interesting.

baseball is still america's pastime. its something that just grows with you the older you get. a towering homerun is cool when your little. a double play is a work of art to an older eye. the only thing better than the regular season is the playoffs. who's gonna be the hero or the goat? for every mazeroski there has to be a mitch williams. your team can have a 3-0 series lead and see it blown away by a couple of swings. bloody socks, no name leftys, "we are family", "called shots" it dont get no better than this.

I REALLY hate to say this, but it appears that I will be watching the postseason more as a historian than a fan . . . I am unable to get excited about any of the teams that will be participating. No, no -- I know what you are thinking, but no sour grapes here !

...but I
will be watching.

I'll be watching, but I don't like how the playoffs drag on. I hate to see frost on the players breath and the crowd all bundled up because it is freezing cold. Baseball is a warm weather sport.

But that's why the greatest event in all of sport, the World Series, is called the Fall Classic!

I would assume because football (high school, college and pro) runs Thursday-Monday.
The playoffs are going to be a blast this year, full of history. Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, Cardinals, Phillies, Dodgers. Add the Rockies and either the Tigers or Twins. It's going to be a fun postseason. Might be, overall, the best group of teams in a while, in terms of talent.

Any early World Series predictions? If mine is right, the networks will be in hog heaven.

Heck, Fall is half over before the WS starts. Now if the Rangers could make it, at least half the games would be played in decent weather.

We have a winner......seriously, though, I flip between the football and baseball games very liberally....

I'm excited, it's baseball and football season. The only time I get bummed is from the Super Bowl to March Madness. I realize there is soccer on ice to be played, but it doesn't do it for me.
Maybe that's what Valentines Day, and the shortest month of the year are for.
