1988 - Kirk Gibson beats Dennis Ecksersley and the heavily favored Oakland A's with a pinch hit 2-run bomb in the bottom of the ninth. He can barely even make it around the bases!
1991 - Thrilling seven game WS as the upstart young Braves fall to the Twins. Mark Lemke becomes a household name.
1992 - Favorite NLCS game of all time - Little used Francisco Cabrera's pinch hit single in the bottom of the ninth sends Sid Bream sliding safely across the plate just barely in front of Barry Bonds' throw, winning a second consecutive NL pennant for the Braves.
1995 - Dave Justice and the Braves defeat the Indians in the WS.
1997 - Edgar Renteria's bottom of the ninth single defeats the Indians in the seventh game of the WS.
1999 - Robin Ventura's "grand slam single" defeats the Braves in the bottom of the 15th in game 5 of the NLCS.
2000 - Subway Series.
2001 - Another thrilling seven game WS as the Diamondbacks defeat the Yankees in the bottom of the ninth of game 7 on Luis Gonzalez's RBI single. Randy Johnson pitches in relief on no days rest. In the wake of the 9/11 tragedy, this was a truly riveting WS.
2003 - Pudge Rodriguez leads the Marlins to a six game upset WS victory over the heavily favored Yankees.
2004 - No good memories from this year, or 2007!
2008 - The incredible rain delay/suspended WS game. It was unprecedented.
2009 - Can't wait to see!

Wow.....such a baseball purist and you can't even mention the only time a team has won an LCS after being down 3-0. Such a disappointment, because you're topic was a good one. It loses all validity, though, when you fail to recognize the Sox' achievement.
By the way, the most exciting non-Red Sox memories I have is of Gibson's homer to win Game 1 and Carter's walk-off for the championship.
The only memory of Robin Ventura worth recounting is the beating he suffered at Arlington Stadium. Nothing else he's ever accomplished is worthy enough for this list.

In all fairness, I really do have to list the 2004 Red Sox rallying from a 3-0 deficit to win the AL pennant and the subsequent WS. Dave Roberts steal of 2B was certainly big.
If you don't think Ventura's walkoff grand slam single was big in the '99 NLCS, you must not have been watching that game. It was amazing.

2003- Aaron Boone's walkoff series clinching hr against boston.
1989- the earthquake that hit during the world series. not so much a favorite, just awed when it happened.
i cant remember what happened in 2004 or 2007. its just a blank slate.

Have to agree with the Boone homer. Painful at the time, but still a great playoff moment.
Also, another "moment" that really sticks out for me was W toeing the rubber after 09/11, with a deafening standing ovation, and putting one right over the white. Awesome.
Kirby's homer in Game Six in '87 was also classic.
I've got a few in the '80 to '86 range but I'll abide by the thread topic

I think the most
important postseason home run during this sternly enforced span of time

was Jim Leyritz's 8th inning roundtripper off the Braves' Mark Wohlers in Game 4 of the 1996 World Series . . . it completely changed the momentum of the Series with one swing.

1993-joe carter's gw home run off mitch williams. just knew philly was going to turn the series around.
randy johnson/ curt schilling during their dominant 2001 postseason. there was no way you were going to beat the two of them in a series.
1998- scott brosius' 3 run homer to give the yankees the lead in game 3 of world series.
2001- jeter's flip to home against the athletics. right place, right time by my favorite player.
2001- world series. jeter hits the first homer in november.

I'd love to hear any more favorite postseason moments from the '80-'86 range, or from even earlier. I was only a kid, but I remember that 15 or 16 inning Astros/Mets NLCS playoff game in 1986 at the Astrodome, and I also remember Kirk Gibson's "other" WS home run in 1984 at Tiger Stadium off (I believe) Goose Gossage in his Padres days. And I distinctly remember Don Denkinger's terribly blown call at 1B in game 6 of the 1985 WS on that chopper Jorge Orta hit! Could have been the worst call in WS history, along with that bogus call in '91 at 1B with Hrbek lifting Gant off the bag. Remember those calls?

- 1976 World Series
The Big Red Machine sweep the Yankees in an unmemorable Fall Classic, but special to me as the very first World Series I remember watching live on TV - The entire 1980 National League Championship Series
1980 was the first year I had a television in my bedroom (I big deal back then!) & I watched every pitch of this classic series. It had it all. Most memorable would be the near-triple play in Game 4 with Verne Ruhle on the mound. Phillies win the best-of-5 in five over the Astros. - 1983 ALCS Game 4
Why this game is never mentioned among the all-time greats continues to baffle me. White Sox lefty Britt Burns battles the Orioles combination of Storm Davis and Tippy Martinez pitch-for-pitch in a game that is scoreless through nine innings. Tito Landrum's one-out home run in the top of the 10th knocks Burns out of the game & leads to a 3-run inning as the Orioles advance to the World Series

^ I will have to look this up to verify:
Two pitchers mentioned in the last two threads --
Britt Burns and
Jack Morris -- are
possibly the last two starting pitchers to pitch past the 9th inning in a postseason game.
I am sure I am forgetting someone obvious...

Jim Sundberg doubling off the wall for the Kansas City Royals against the Cardinals in 1985, contributing to his one and only World Series championship. I have never been more happier for a major league player in my life. After being the mainstay at catcher in Texas for so many years, Sunny really deserved that.

Didn't Sundberg also triple off the top edge of the RF wall at old Exhibition Stadium in the ALCS that year? I just saw this highlight again at Kaufman Field a couple of weeks ago. I think that was in '85 against the Blue Jays.

The best of times and the worst of times in '86.
Dave Henderson hits an ALCS-saving homer against Donnie Moore in Anaheim. Then, Game 6 of the World Series against the Mets. Enough said.
Not necessarily a favorite moment, but how about Andujar's maniacal ejection in Game 7 of the '85 series? It was thought that Herzog sent Andujar out to mop up and purposely blow up at plate umpire Denkinger.

Years later, didn't Donnie Moore actually end up killing himself? Sad deal there. I remember Joaquin "Youneverknow" Andujar's out-of-control ejection in Game 7 of the WS in '85.
I also remember Buddy Biancalana blowing a squeeze at the plate in the Series that year and hanging Darryl Motley out to dry at 3B. Thought it was funny during that '85 season, also, when Letterman had his "Buddy Biancalana Hits Countdown to catch Pete Rose" bit on his show.

Your are correct about Moore. He never recovered from that homer. As I remember, he was a Texan from the Lubbock area I believe.
