He said that even if you lead with the shoulder and make contact with the helmet, which the Dallas player did, its gonna get called. I understand why the NFL has instituted this rule, but I think it could use some tweaking. Maybe a booth review to determine rather the contact to the helmet was intentional or not would help.
Just like a lot of other rules, it all depends on how they are enforced. It stands to reason that a guy in the air for a catch and coming down while being tackled, more often than not, have his helmet contact either the shoulder pads of the defender tackling him or the ground. MOST of the head injuries suffered by receivers were from hitting the ground, not helmet to helmet contact.
Next thing you know, they won't let anyone tackle a receiver who is in the air until his feet hit the ground. I know, maybe they should just ditch the pads and just play flag football instead.
