Ok....Team USA just won the thing going on in Mexico....I think it's called CONCAF.......that qualifies them pretty high for the World Cup if I'm not mistaken.......if I am, please feel free to make corrections......
Concacaf is the group that the U.S. is in. It consists of teams from North and Central America, also some Island nations as well.
There were previous qualifying stages that knocked out countries like Canada and Jamaica before this last group play stage.
There are 6 teams in the final Concacaf group: USA, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobego, El Salvedor, Honduras, and Costa Rica.
USA had to play the other 5 teams twice, once at home, once away. Whoever got the most "points" won the group. 3 points per victory, 1 per draw.
As far as qualifying high goes, we'll get a better seed because of winning our group, but FIFA will try to make the World Cup groups as fair as possible meaning that we won't get much respect coming out of Concacaf like Brazil will for winning the South American group stage.
the World Cup starts off with 8 4-team groups, top 2 teams out of each group make it to the knockout stages where it is then single elimination.
Colmes, I hope you watch a lot of games in the world cup, not just America, you'll see some great skillful play and you'll understand why this game is universally loved. A good goal for the USA would be to make it to the knockout rounds in 2010, especially with all of the recent injuries. Hope this explination kinda helped. Don't get too angry at the latin american countries for flopping all over the field in the late minutes of a game if they are winning, it's a lame tactic but when you consider how important these game results are to their national pride you kinda realize why they do it.

Awesome game last night. USA should have won with all the chances they had, but they just couldn't find the back of the net. Greater header to win with about 10 secs left. Your right, they will qualify very high for the World Cup. I just hope they can produce.

lol...I probably won't watch any but the ones the US is involved in....I'm not a fan, I just root for the good ole USA no matter what is being played......

Colmes, if you want to feel like ur supporting east texas boys then cheer the two on the team that are from East texas. Dempsey is from Nacogdoches and Torres is from Longview HS. Kenny Cooper is from Dallas.

Thanks.....I will definitely keep an eye on them......it'll be nice having some locals to watch......
