How many of you are going to the NAMMB contest this weekend? I got to thinking about how many military bands we have here in East Texas and if just half of them go, it will be a great contest. So, I was looking over the bands in UIL Region 4 & 21 and the following bands could participate:
Region 21
Athens
Brownsboro
Bullard
Carlisle
Carthage
Center
Chapel Hill (Tyler)
Garrison
Hallsville
Henderson
Jacksonville
Lindale
Longview
Lufkin
Nacogdoches
Overton
Rusk
Shelbyville
Teneha
Troup
Van
Whitehouse
Region 4
Gilmer
Gladewater
Kilgore
Marshall
New Boston
Pine Tree
Pittsburg
Big Sandy
DeKalb
Elysian Fields
Harelton
Harmony
Hughes Springs
Jefferson
New Diana
Ore City
Sabine
Union Grove
White Oak
So tell us out there, who's going to make the trip this weekend?

No, James Bowie is not military...not that there is anything wrong with that. Haven't been military in roughly 8 or 9 years.
Had a good showing at Area the other day...just a few too many alignment problems to bump in. Hadn't had those before Saturday.

Rockport-Fulton is a military marching band from Arkansas, and they march in Region 14
They got straight 1's, qualified for their Area contest, and is a past sweepstakes winning band.
The director there is a former TX band director....
this outta make for an interesting 4A contest we'll see...
some of you are gonna be shocked when you see Atascocita...thats all i gotta say....

Rockport -Fulton is near Corpus Christi, not in Arkansas. It's on the Aransas Bay.

Class 3A: Cleveland.... This band is way BETTER than New Boston this year and their Drum Majors are freaking
AwesomeClass 4A: Vidor... Arkansas has nothing on Texas!

. But when the contest is over LUFKIN will be CRUNK as usual so therfore Lufkin gets the Title of the Crunkest Band!

Word has it Lufkin wasn't prepared well enough to compete with the Kingwood schools.
IMO....Nammb is rigged anyway! just my opinion

Rigged???? I'm sure your opinion is rooted in rock-solid, indisputable, fact-based evidence..... I think not. Tough but fair judges. Bands out on the field doing what few still do - precision military drill/music - and working their guts out. I was there, and was proud for every band that made the investment to go to NAMMB. Wish all our military bands would go - what a spectacle that would be!!!!!
I enjoy and appreciate a good corps-style band, but the heritage of marching bands is MILITARY. And nobody does it better than Texas!

Yea, it's really unfair how otherbands who are better win, and the judges are unfair to you.
WOW! Do you know how bad that sounds?
I saw New Boston's performance at our game the night before, and I have to tell you, from a judges point of view, theirs was a near flawless performance. Some of the best snap I have seen in turns, and hitting the lines with the arch of the foot was consistent like I haven't seen in a while. Musically, you would've thought they were sitting in the auditorium, balanced and in tune. Great Job!

dont know who told you that...but Lufkin had a large amount of ineligible students and would've had almost 20 holes in their drill. As far as them not competing with the Kingwood schools....kingwood wasnt very good this year...they had a section where two lines were in the wrong place for about 40 counts....and normally i dont disagree with judging, but Kingwood getting superior rating and New Diana not was a total miss.....since when is it ok for a superior rated band to have kids wondering around in the drill, and playing rudimental drum beats instead of the written drum parts....

Kingwood really has gone down hill the last several years. I agree about the drum beats too. I don't mind a band re-arranging music to fit the drill, but when they scrap the entire percussion part for a loud and obnoxious jam beat it really gets on my nerves. Especially when they could have been working on playing cleanly and popping their turns instead. When the percussion is so loud you can't hear the melody, IT'S TOO LOUD!

Scott Williams,(Lufkin band director) told his band members that they were not prepared. I have a kid in the LP band. There was not 20 holes. Dont know who YOU got your info from!

Kingwood was not as good as expected. As to Lufkin, you DON'T want to go if you're not prepared. Don't know about eligibility issues - I had heard that too - but holes can be handled if necessary. Anyway........ on to C/SR season!
