I typed something last night that you mechanics need to be aware of.

If you change out BRAKE PADS, you need to be wearing one of those full masks, that cover your noise and your mouth...

I won't get technical on ya here, but it can cause mesothelioma.

Asbestos related? I've never even considered wearing a mask while working on a car.

Make sure you buy made in the USA.Most of these will have very little or no asbestos. If our government cared they would stop this. But lobbists have deep pockets.

The U.S. imports an increasing amount of asbestos brake shoes, linings and pads, now over $120 million worth a year, from Mexico -- and an unknown share of these imports is made with asbestos.

The U.S. International Trade Commission has refused to separately classify brake friction materials made with asbestos from those made with other materials, so it is not possible to know exactly what the imports of the asbestos brake parts come to. But leading sources of these brake friction material imports are countries that still use (and three of them mine) a lot of asbestos: Brazil, China, Colombia, and Mexico.

US brake friction material imports from these countries have risen from $23 million in 2000, to $76 million in 2005, and $90 million in 2006. Automotive friction materials have not been made with asbestos in the US for the past several years.

I'm telling you all... whether they're American or foreign made... BETTER wear a mask... I ain't joking!

Fixing to be huge lawsuits on this, and guess what 3 companies are named, whose employees put them on... just guess.....this will be worse than the original asbestos lawsuits from shipyards, etc.

Frivolous lawsuits, everyone wanting to blame somebody for death that is inevitable. Does it matter that if you live for 27, 33 years, or 110 ? I'm tired of these lawsuits.

The next thing you know someone is going to be sued for saving someones life, wait that's already happened : http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/story?id=6498405&page=1 .

People do not want me on a jury, especially when they are trying to be safe. The lawyers get uneducated idiots that have lived in playpens all their life, and don't understand many things.

Well, now wait a minute...I understand your argument, and yes, there are tons of that "frivilous" hoohah going on... but for these men (majority of men) who lose their lives early because of what they inhaled at work...because of some dimwit company going for the almighty dollar versus what they make their employees susceptible to... I'm all for capitalism, but not when it risks a person's life.

Or because his wife gets it because she's doing his clothes, and the family itself is exposed to it... like I said, I totally understand your argument, but ....

Granted a lot of this wasn't known before, one reason why the miners and shipyard guys had so much of it, but yet again, we trusted the government... it was said to be "safe"... (rolling eyes here)
