I moved to denton this semester and of course we are horrible...
but something i noticed is that son of head coach todd dodge, Riley, started the first two games....then sat out against alabama due to an injury on his throwing hand, yet the very next weekend went out and threw 54 passes against Middle tennessee...
then last week against western kentucky, riley threw for 4 TD and ran for 3 TD's....very impressive. HOWEVER, sophomore running back lance dunbar (who leads the nation in rushing in the last 5 games) rushed for 227 yards, but only had 1 TD that came on a 71 yard run...while riley's rushing TD's came from 1, 3, 18 yards out.
what are your thoughts? i, for one, feel that coach dodge is protecting his son in more ways than one.
Sounds like a good Dad to me!!!

i know that its great to be a college coach, but leaving South Lake was the dumbest thing Dodge has done lol. his teams there would dominate UNT.
But on a serious note this guy is a good coach and i think if they let him hand around long enough he will be able to turn UNT around. Its going to take some work but it can be done. I dont know how good he is as a recruiting coach though...He should know the area.

not dumb at all...a D1 college pays more than a high school...i think he will be able to help UNT also, but because he is a good coach...i would like to see him recruit more around our area...everything he gets is north dallas.

I've always wondered why some schools don't recruit out of their own back yard occasionally.

I actually talked to the back up qb Nathan Tune, during the week of the Troy game and asked him about Riley. He said he wasnt sure how long he was out, or what was wrong with him. I think Todd Dodge is an awful coach, hopefully we will have a new coach in 2011 when the new stadium opens. Something else that is interesting is Riley Dodge is a redshirt freshman that is already 21 years old. Nathan Tune the back up qb is a junior and he 21 years old. Sounds kind of fishy to me?

He is a class behind the junior and is the same age. Wow, the son of a coach who graduated at 19.

"Gonna hold my boy back for frosh tryouts next year...8th grade aint so bad is it son." Varsity blues. lol
I wonder how many people actually do this. There is alot of development between 17 and 19. Gives kids a boost for that senior year of HS. With a dad as a coach having learned the system since pee wee at southlake he was pretty much a coach on the field. The kid was good lol

It happens alot. However, a lot of the time it is kids who have a summer birthday. There are a couple of freshmen kids where I live who will be driving before by soph child.
Dodge has an October birthday, so he was probably already older than most in his "class" even before starting late.

I played summer baseball on an allstar team with some evangel boys. They actually had an 8+ grade for that purpose. I'm not certain if it was mandatory or optional, but the way they made it sound was all athletes went from 8th grade to 8+ before 9th grade. One told me all their seniors were 19 when football season started or turned 19 during the fall of that year.

haha, no I graduated from jville and I do hate the university of Texas. Alot of people say it's because they beat USC. Actually it's because of the way all the ut faithful talk down USC and talk about that one game when USC leads the series 4-1. Texas fans still wear their 05 championship shirts. And it may just be me but it also seems like they are still printing national champion shirts.

and just a small note meangreen...if you look back at it, Tune didn't turn the ball over at all against 'bama...very impressive accomplishment if you ask me!!! i think dodge is a political man...isn't it odd that giovanni vizza transferred after riley completed his redshirt year? and now you have nate tune, a jr, riding the pine behind a freshman who has 6 INT's in sunbelt conference play...possibly the worst conference in D1 college football.
another interesting thing i saw is that despite being classified as a redshirt freshman this year...riley played last season as a reciever...he had 9 recpeptions for 58 yards...so how can he still be classified as a freshman?

He got a concussion, and only played in 3 games so he was elgible for a medical redshirt. Tune is the better qb, he had 267 yards passing against a tough Troy team and led us back against FAU when Dodge went down. Riley Dodge is overrated, he had good games against WKU and Ball State. However it is WKU and Ball State 2 of the worst teams in the NCAA this year.

What a joke are you mad at your high school coach because his son played in front of you. I was a coaches son and people never stopped even when I moved to WR to take pressure off my dad. You can rip me if you want but unless your better than Todd or Riley shut up, and I would be willing to bet if you ever met either one you would change your mind. Dodge was part of program that was the best in Texas at the time. Riley was one of the best to play in Texas. Being a coaches son is the hardest position in High School to play bar none, imagine having to do it at the D1 level. Quit trying to rip a guy that did nothing to you.

Have you been to a UNT game? Do you know any players on the team? Do you know what Todd's record is over the past 3 years? He is 5-27 with 3 wins over Western Kentucky the worst team in the FBS behind us. Prior to last week when we played the worst team in the FBS Riley had 3 td and 7 interceptions on the year. He was averaging 2 to 3 turnovers a game. Riley was a good high school quarterback and Todd was a good high school football coach, but this is division one football. My tuition money helps pay his salary, so I am entitled to every opinion I want. So how about you go and do a little research before you get on here and tell me to shut up. Im sorry that you got offended because you are a coaches son.

Excuse me....but haven't the Longhorns won it all since the USC Trojans have?
Maybe USC fans are the ones living in the past. I don't recall the Longhorns losing to a 41 point underdog (USC-Stanford) anytime in recent history either.

yeah the age thing is not uncommon at all... I may be mistaken, but when Jimmy Clausen was in High school I believe I read an SI article that said he was held back TWICE.
The fact that there are big time gains between ages 17-19 is no lie. Last football season I was 18 weighed in at 175 soaking wet and benched 215. Now at age 19 I weigh 198 and bench 255. I would love to be able to play high school football now. But sadly I'm not Todd Dodge's son, nor am I retarded.

you are probably upset because people say the same thing about you...heck no i'm not better than riley, nor do i know the game better than todd...but i can see when stuffs going on...
this past weekend against ULM riley threw 3 more INT's. one of them the safety just ran under it and waited for it like it was a punt. the season is lost...let tune have his turn. riley still has 3 years left. maybe i was overly impressed with tune against bama...maybe my man crush on lance dunbar makes me biased...maybe our recievers aren't very good...or just maybe riley dodge isn't ready to start at this level.
just sayin...chase daniel does it big at mizzou, McElroy is navigating his team to the national title game...and the coaches son is throwing picks left and right at the university of north texas under his dads guidance.

Can not blame Riley for wanting to Dodge the bama game.
more of a chance of the refs throwing a flag on a bama lineman for wanting to Dodge the QB than running over him late.
