Bad games are more than just stats...Third down conversions and hitting open guys can influence a game more that those big stats. Ive seen games where QBs throw for 300 yards on 1st and 2nd down but then go 1-9 on third down to stall drives...
WETSU, I completely agree with your thinking. Colt had pretty good stats, but really the yards made them look better than they were. Colt threw a pick just before half where if he's only led Kirkendoll instead of trying to fire it in there it would've been a TD and UT would've been up 21-3 at the half. Then in the third quarter, Colt almost had another one picked where he didn't see the linebacker skating over on him, watching his eyes as Kirkendoll was crossing the middle of the field behind him.
Anyhow, really, those are the two plays I was thinking about and saying Colt could've played better. Everything else he did was good I just think he can do better than he did on those two throws, because we've seen him do it in the past. I think the loss of Quan Cosby has hurt the passing game more than anyone imagined it would before the season began.
Cosby was short, and not the fastest guy around. Now, he wasn't slow by any means, but he was slower than almost every corner he lined up against. However, that dude was/is one heck of a WR and catches almost everything thrown within his zip code. Colt really had it good when he had Cosby and Shipley on the field at the same time. He's still trying to build his trust with Malcolm Williams and the more consistent Williams becomes the more comfortable Colt will be looking his way.
