^Now you’re talkin’ my kind of toys, Hank.
My dad used to make tractors with a wind up motor from a wooden thread spool, a rubber band, 2 wooden matches, and a piece of soap and some spit. He carved the spool to look like an axle and 2 tires. I tried to make them for my kids but they were not as impressed with mine as I was with the ones he made for me. So I doubt if it will ever make the toy Hall of Fame.

the old toy colt .45 cap guns with the plastic grips. never figured out why i never got any refills on the caps.
my grandpa drove dump trucks & bulldozers for a living. anytime he went out on a job i would ask him to bring back roots to play with. you could think up alot of stuff that a root could be. after watching "the ten commandments" one easter i asked for a moses stick. after awhile i had about a six foot long stick that had been stripped of all the bark just like moses.

Out of their list, silly putty and Big Wheel would have been my favorites.
My uncle threw my Stretch Armstrong in the fireplace.
If sticks made the toy hall of fame then rocks absolutely should. Had a lot more fun with rocks growing up than I did sticks. Especially during recess at school. Can't beat a good rock fight for teaching valuable life lessons.

My favorite toy kept me occupied for hours.
I collected cola drink caps back in the 1950s when all drinks were in a bottle. Pepsi caps were Yankee soldiers and Coca Cola caps were Rebs. I had hundreds of caps and fought some great battles. When a soldier got killed I simply turned the cap over. I had platoons that charged each other and I would just smash them together until one side had a decisive advantage. I'd set up ambushes. It was great, harmless entertainment for a 5-year-old. It was also cheap, 99.9 percent of my caps were free. Dr Pepper caps were officers for the rebs. 7-up and other caps were Yankee officers.

Jack in the box. I was looking at the toys ( with my kids of course) and found a jack in the box and I played with that thing for a while. With my kids of course.
