I was watching the OSU and Texas Tech game and right before halftime, TT was driving down the field and and did a shovel pass to the runningback. When he caught the ball he was pounded by one of the OSU linebackers. The announcers on TV were talking about how he put the crown of his helmet right to the chin. This was not called, does anyone know why?

Becuase it is a bogus rule, this is football and people hit each other. So natrually one who carries the ball will get hit in the head.

Not saying I agree with it, because I don't like the rule. But it is a rule, and in that case only do I think it should be called and called fairly.

The rule is hit to head on a QB, defenseless WR and spearing..RBs are not covered unless they were defensless or speared. Running the ball into the line is not defenseless..in fact a great RB will go as low as he can which will shrink the target he provides to be hit., that is going to create those type of hits. If they made those illegal, RBs would basically never be tackled

Batch was a defenseless receiver on the play, with that said we hit Robinson helmet to helmet at the end of the game although Robinson kinda lowered his head

Sometimes it's just left to the discretion of the referee; but the rule says he has to lead with the crown of the helmet (that being the top). Sometimes that's tough to call. I remember all the talk about Kindle's hit on the TT QB several weeks ago. It was very clear that the ref had it right as Kindle did not lead with the crown of the helmet. The front of the helmet is not the crown; the crown is also connoted with spearing.

I thought the same thing about the hit on Batch, a defenseless receiver, that's why I started this post. The hit on Robinson was IMO self induced, and a clean hit. I'm pretty certain if either hit took place in the backfield on a sack they would have had a flag thrown.

Spearing is never called, player on ground can't get up in college, and you see a player come and hit him.
