1918 -- The Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 behind the three-hit pitching of Carl Mays to win the World Series in six games.
1985 -- Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds became the all-time hit leader with his 4,192nd hit to break Ty Cobb's record. Rose lined a 2-1 pitch off San Diego pitcher Eric Show to left-center field for a single in the first inning. It was the 57th anniversary of Ty Cobb's last game in the majors.

In 1889, Mickey Welch strikes out for the New York Giants becoming the first pinch hitter in major league history.
Welch was a pitcher for the Giants who won 27 games that year.

SEPTEMBER 10, 1933
The first Negro League East-West All-Star Game is played at Comiskey Park. Willie Foster goes the distance in the West's 11-7 victory.
SEPTEMBER 10, 1962
Against Hank Aguirre, Mickey Mantle clouts a 4th inning homer run, the 400th of his career, to tie the game, 1-1. The Yanks score two in the 9th off Aguirre to beat Detroit 3-1. The victory, combined with a Minnesota loss, gives the Yanks a 3 ½ game lead over the Twins. The surprising Angels are in 3rd place, four games back.
SEPTEMBER 10, 1967
Joel Horlen revives the Chicago White Sox' pennant hopes with a 5-0 no-hit win against the Tigers. Detroit hits only two balls to the outfield.
SEPTEMBER 10, 1992
The Reds' Glenn Braggs closes out his career by clouting a homer in his last at bat, off Steve Avery. Braggs tears cartilage in his right knee on the swing, and is forced to leave the game. Atlanta eventually wins, 3-2.
