Not if they are placed in Alto's district. I hear that Alto has 173 right now and will drop down.

Folks in Brownwood expect to drop to 3A. Apparently the enrollment is way down. Would be a force in 3A if that happens.

Sabine is going to be real close (all depends on the number) again. If cutoff goes up by at least 30 we will go down to 2A. We were 13 over last time.

Henderson has been close to the 3A line, but they had an increase in attendence this year.

What about Lindale? I hear every year they are single digits away from moving up, or sometimes don't count all students to avoid moving up?

Lindale is definitely going up this year.

I think Lindale is convinced they are going 4A, a coach there told me they were close to a 1000 last spring.

Depending on the numbers of cut off's 11-3a will see 3 team drop to 2a winnsboro , Mt vernon , and Emory Rains. all these three schools are reporting in the 420's some numbers i have seen 2a being up to 500 but I think that sounds a little high there unless they are trying to fill slots in 1a

Anyone know White Oaks numbers? I can't see Tatum going down. From what I understand they have had large growth in students. Anyone have any idea? Numbers should be out there somewhat (playoff big school/little school determination has to be out)

What about Mineola,Quitman, and the other Wood County schools? Will Quitman stay in 2A?
If they drop down, I can see the district shaping up like this;
WINNSBORO
Mount Vernon
Quitman
Mineola
Alba Golden( if they do not move down to 1a)
Rains
GRAND SALINE.
Talk about a heavyweight district.

I had a conversation with a Quitman ISD board member last year. He was confident that they would remain 2A.
With due respect, this may not be gospel, may be wishful thinking or things may have changed.
I would like to see this proposed district by BigRedFan. Close geography and good for natural rivalries.
Except for AG of course, it would be best for all if they went to 1A.

White Oak administator told me they currently have 424....Thats up 24 kids from last realignment.

I believe White Oak is still right around 400 in the High School. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
If the "bottom" of 3A is finally raised, then White Oak, Sabine, and Tatum will all likely drop to 2A.

...Oh, sorry snuffy.
I didn't see your post. I'll take your word for it.

With Class A giving out 2 state championship next year, I expect the top of Class A to rise to somewhere around 200 or 225. Small schools couldn't complain anymore with that larger division. Class 2A will rise to around 425, and Class 3A will probably go all the way up to 950 or so.

Snuffy, a WO administrator told me they were closer to 395. Should be interesting to see what it really is.
If it's more than 420, I'll be shocked. We had 370 when I graduated in '99, and the classes under us weren't too much larger.

I got it from a pretty high official from one of the schools in 11 3a that Winnsboro, Mount Vernon, and Rains would be staying in 3a. Rains is one of the fastest growing schools in that part of the country.

If they are over 395 - 400 they will be in 3A. I maybe wrong but you people talking about 420 425 430 being the top number in 2A. You guys have lost your flippen mind. NOWAY 2A goes that high. Because that means that in 1A there would be 5,000,000 basketball schools. JUST NOT HAPPING.

Do any of you people really KNOW what the UIL is going to do? There are over 1,100 high schools in the state. We all thought we knew what they were going to do with the numbers in 04' but we really didn't.
I hope the 3A numbers change, but who knows what they're gonna do?

There might be a ton of basketball schools but they made the decision to have the big school/small school with 1A and six man. This means they have a few spots they are going to have to fill to get the 32 districts. Keep in mind we are in Texas not Indiana

no alot are moving to harelton because they are spoiled brats who cant play at jefferson , so their momy loads them up and says we will just go to harelton!! jefferson would be 2a even if the numbers stayed the same !!shoot they might be in the same dist with harelton , that would be ugly for them!!!!
Duderino
Nov 1 2005, 03:01 PM
There are several kids that have moved into the Harleton district who don't compete in sports. As for the "spoiled brat" theory...I don't know enough about that to comment.

Having two State champions has nothing to do with adding schools... The numbers will not significantly change more than a handful per class. It has never bothered the UIL to have byes in Class A playoffs and it won't now... They will not allow the numbers to change so dramatically that you could end up with 450 odd Class A Basketball schools.. That's a logistical nightmare for BBAll, Bsball, Track, etc. Besides the UIL makes a pot full more $ on AA playoff gates than they do Class A. I would be absolutely shocked if the top number for Class A is over 200.
lynn_89
Nov 2 2005, 04:41 PM
i agree with allbig8. i don't see the number going up more than 10, and even though there are several byes....i'm sure the UIL will fill some of those, but a bye here & there won't matter. of course, this all my opinion, and the UIL could fool us all again this time around!

The UIL does strange things. The 500 number for 2A is wild, but possible. If the actual number is in the 425-430 range, where does that leave 3A? It is possible a school with a population of 450 goes head to head with a school that has a population of 900. That's fair. Who knows! Just sit back and wait.

According to the Tatum ISD website -
http://www.tatumisd.org/modules/CmodsDownl..._October_28.pdf
Tatum had 394 students on October 28, 2005. The current 2A numbers are 190-389, if the top number moves up - Tatum will go to 2A. Tatum I believe is the 2nd smallest 3A in the state.
