This is hard for me to say because i am a cheerleader; but i need sum help! Tell me what you think!
The main problems about high school cheeleaders are:
1. Boys!!!
2. Gossip
3. Something not going sum1's way
4. Non participaters
WHO CARES! It's cheerleading, you made it cause your good at something, if everyone kept to there selves and just did as told, and follow along everything would go ok! But no, of course we have teenagers who are too stuck up!

Girl...I agree totally! Thank you for saying that because maybe it will get through some of their heads! lol but I love cheerleading and wouldn't have it neother way!

biggest problem would be some school board member who hasnt got a clue about cheerleading telling you what you can and cant do and what you can and cant wear, in my opinion.

Too much politics and gossiping and not enough focus on the sport of cheerleading.

some schools....NOT ALL....but some need to teach their cheeleaders and their sponsors the basics of football...
i do not know how many times i have heard take that ball away from a cheer squad when their team was on offense.

speaking as the father of a former cheerleader. i think the biggest problem is the fact that girls turn on each other waaayyy to fast. then you have a split squad

That's definately true- the last 2 posts. I've had to tell my squad what a first down was. I thought everyone knew that. and it seems like all cheerleaders have an attitude. If they get left out of a picture or don't get to do a certain cheer, they have an enemy for life. I just wish the girls would chill sumtimes.

sharing time between playing a sport and cheering

as a fan and a cheer father I think a good cheer squad brings alot to the game, but it seems to me that after the try-outs are over the enthusiasm of the girls (for the majority) falls to little if any. Yall are LEADERS and you have to lead, if you cant get the crowd to get into what yall are doing, you have to try harder. For a fan to get the most out of the game, everything needs to be in sink. You have to not disturb the fan from watching each play, but get them to do the (right ) cheer at the time with you after the play is over. One cheer every three downs is good. If you try to cheer while a play is going the men are not going to be in it with you. but if you wait until after the play is over the odds of them cheering with you go up. THATS THE KEY. GET THE MEN INTO IT, but dont disturb them from watching each play.
To truely get the most out of a game everything has to work together.
Friday night without a good cheerleading sqaud just would not be the same.:smileybanger:

Tank McNamara has been all over this. I think he's satired it well. Actually, Will Ferrell and Sherry O'Terry satirized it better.

The same analogy can be said of the cleavage showing, midriff baring, topless bar dancer, or porn star.

People can say it's only for the "fun". I don't see it that way, and yes I rubberneck on occasion. Like driving down a highway, I'll look at the accident. But, hey you're advertising.

I just refuse to be apart of the accident. Andy Warhol summarized this whole Zeitgeist. 15 minutes of fame, and poof...

I'm a parent in the stands and I do not have a cheerleader myself.... but let me tell you what I saw at the Pitt/PG game Friday night. The fans were out cheering the cheerleaders... so instead of the cheerleaders joining in.... it made them mad and they were giving the fans dirty looks. A couple of cheerleaders went over to the band and asked them to quite cheering!! If you sign up for tryouts in Pitt, you make the squad. We had over 30 girls out there and only a small handful didn't have attitude.

Usually the fans don't pay much attention to the cheerleading. But that deep in the playoffs you expect the girls to lead the fans!!

Having dated a cheerleader id say the main problem then and still today is jelousy.

I would not have quit cheering if I were told that. Nobody can tell people not to cheer.

Actually, maybe one of the big problems with cheerleading is that they can't spell or use correct grammar! (See bolded highlights above for evidence). This, of course, simply perpetuates the stereotyping of cheerleaders as being dumb blondes,...or dumb brunettes....or dumb dyed-hair blondes....etc.

What happened here was the cheerleaders were wanting to do a dance or a stunt and not lead in the cheering. or
didn't know it was third down.
I think it would be good if there were about 5 reserves that got to cheer when one of the first line cheerleaders missed practice, or got so many demerits. But what would happen is all 15 would wind up cheering and it wouldn't mean anything. Also 10 girls is probably too many for a sponsor to handle and adding 5 more would be a sure hardship. Look how many football players sit on the bench. But boys are a sure lot easer to handle than girls. If there was a reserve waiting in the wings if one didn't do right they would probably toe the line tighter.

Unfortunately - this type of behavior on the part of cheerleaders is not limited to Pittsburg. I've seen several Tyler-area high school & even college sporting events where the so-called cheerleaders not only would not cheer (they were too busy doing something else) when the members of the band and/or the fans in the stands were cheering and being loud - they did the same thing (gave dirty looks, etc.)
